The C'an Digus apartments are right on the harbour front in Fornells. Some of the apartments have sea views and others views over the pool. Our apartment was a two bedroom duplex with a pool view (we had only booked a one bedroom, so it must have been an upgrade). Both bedrooms had air con units and small windows with superb views over the harbour. The kitchen had an oven, large fridge/freezer, washing machine, toaster, electric kettle and all the usual cooking equipment. I can't vouch for the efficiency of the cooker because I never used it - there is a large choice of very good restaurants in Fornells.

The pool was a bit cold but it was May. We ate in the C'an Digus restaurant on a few occasions and found the food good. We had no problem having drinks only and quite a few locals used the bar.

Parking was no problem and we left the car in a small car park opposite every night.

We thought the apartments were very reasonably priced and would definately return.

We stayed in these apartments for two weeks in August 2006 as we had visited Menorca before and liked Fornells very much. The apartments are very basic and overpriced for what you get, hardly any kitchen facilities apart from an ancient toaster and a gas cooker that takes twice the normal time to cook anything. There wasn't even a kettle (is that too much to ask?) or other what I thought were basic kitchen appliances. There was not much ventilation in the apartment, apart from opening windows which meant you let the noise in (especially from the restaurant). You could rent a fan for a small charge but surely this wouldn't cost too much to include in the total price. A funny set up really, the restaurant next door shares some of the premises but is run totally separately which makes it a little awkward sometimes if you just fancy a drink and no meal (we were refused drinks only). Also, there were no other english children staying here so our daughter got a little bored, do not rely on this if looking for somewhere to keep the kids occupied.
The pool area was nice and clean with plenty of sun loungers.
However, all that said, Fornells is a lovely place and we were out most of the time so we made the best of it.

My wife and I booked Can Digus Apartments because we wanted to stay in Fornells village (as opposed to the nearby Playa de Fornells holiday resort). Anyone who knows the island will know Fornells is one of the prettiest villages on the island, renowned for its sheltered bay, palm lined harbour and fish restaurants. However there is not much in the way of holiday accommodation there. After a fairly exhaustive search on the Internet, The Can Digus apartment complex was the only place we could find with a one-bedroom apartment.

The price is at the budget end of the scale and the facilities are basic. On the plus side the apartment was in good condition and clean but I will list the few issues we had with the property before I move on to the good stuff:
1)No A/C. Not that you would expect this in a budget apartment, but Fornells is humid in July evenings and the apartment had limited ventilation.
2)Towels were changed twice and sheets once over our two-week stay.
3)No iron or ironing board provided.
4)No dedicated parking although on street parking was always available nearby.

And now the good stuff: The apartments are located on the seafront and on arrival they are a bit difficult to locate due to the one-way system in Fornells. The complex has around 30 apartments of various sizes is based around an excellent, clean and well-maintained pool with sun loungers and umbrellas. Our apartment had a small veranda leading out directly onto the pool area. The Sa Nasa bar/restaurant which is attached to the apartments, serves a wide range of good food and is excellent value. Both locals and tourists (many spanish) would eat there in the evenings while their young children played in contentedly on the small patch of sand on the seashore opposite. Although only a very short walk to the centre of the village, the apartments are not on the main thoroughfare. However if, like us, your apartment is close to the restaurant, you have to compromise between closing the double glazed windows for silence and opening them for ventilation.

Fornells’ economy is largely based on tourism, mainly day vistors, and evening diners, but it is still a working fishing port and has a large local population. It has a real village atmosphere. Although it has no beach of its own it is a short drive to excellent and uncrowded beaches on the north coast. Cala Pregonda is one of the most beautiful on the island and although you have a fair walk from the car park, it is well worth a visit. Another benefit of the location and one of the reasons we chose it is the easy access to all parts of the island. Nowhere is more than 40 minutes drive away and the main roads are first class.

Overall, the Can Digus Apartments provided us with an excellent holiday and we managed to experience a lot more of the island than a standard resort holiday would provide. Although I would willingly have paid a bit extra for a few more luxuries in the apartment itself, the overall package was excellent value for money and we will certainly be considering a return visit.
