“Great Restaurant”

Like others writing reviews here, we were staying at the Champagne B&B just over the road, and our hosts made the booking for us.

We had the very good value set menu (remember this is a Michelen starred restaurant, not cheap, but extremely good value)

The restaurant was full and ours was a last minute booking so we were inside, and would have preferred to have been outside (it is under cover) which has better views over the Marne. Ask to sit there is you can.

The staff were fine, and happy to put up with our (bad) French. The meal was excellent and we enjoyed the whole experience. Worth a visit, as they say in Michelin.

“Delicious food in an idyllic setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2010

We spotted the Auberge in the Michelin guide and it was en route for us to the Jura - so we decided to try it and were delighted that we did. Madame Berthuit was so helpful when we had to change our first booking because of work commitments, and when we discovered that their accommodation would be full on our return trip, recommended the local chambres d'hote - and we were still able to eat in the restaurant at the Auberge! All the staff are charming, the rooms are pleasant, and breakfast taken in the sunshine on the terrace overlooking the Marne will be hard to beat! We can see why people travel from Paris to eat at the Auberge - Martial Berthuit excels at using the best of local ingredients in inventive and delicious plates of food and he clearly merits his Michelin star. All round a marvellous experience - you will not be disappointed - and we hope to return very soon!

“Wonderful Restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2010

Absolutely loved the atmosphere, food and wonderul terrace and views. Staff are spectacular, probably best service ever. Stayed for four days and had terrific time, with spouse, mother, brother and wife and dog. Bathrooms recently refurbished and great. Bedrooms were adequate but a little tired and beds were not too comfortable. Visited Epernay and champagne cellars. Would highly recommend to all.

“Superb food, but lacking in ambience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2010

The room was adequate - a little small, but with a good bathroom. The hotel is on the main road, so rather noisy, though the windows are double-glazed and there is air-con in the room. Unfortunately the welcome lacked any warmth, and the restaurant service was interminably slow - table booked for 8pm on a sunday night, but it was 9.45 before we were presented with any food. We were thus having coffee just before midnight and were made to feel we were keeping them up. My friend's wine glass was left empty but when he picked up the decanter and filled his glass, it was snatched out of his hand quite fiercely! Breakfast service was bordering on the surly. It's a great shame because the food is superb - everything one expects from a michelin starred restaurant. I can only assume it was a one-off aberration judging by other reviews, but it was not a good end to our holiday.

We didn't stay at the hotel, but would recommend going out of your way to visit the restaurant. The food was amazing, service impeccable.
