This place surpassed all our expectations. The house is gorgeous and so homely; the food is the tastiest I've ever had anywhere, and quite healthy too, even ice cream that tastes that good has to be good for one - yes? Breakfast, packed lunch, dinners, all so fresh and delicious. The walks were great, even if I did puff a bit going up hills. The group were great craic, as we say in Ireland, all lovely interesting people.We were lucky enough to be there for trad session in local pub on Monday night, don't miss it. In fact we went to the 'Old Smithy' every night, lovely pub, lovely staff, so make that part of trip too. Unless you're good on TV & Film trivia, don't get talked in to taking part in the quiz, we disgraced ourselves - but sure that was good craic too. We can re-iterate all the comments about the scenery, the local history info, the paths we traveled and the stops we made - all true. We took Michael's advice on our free day and visited Pencarrow House, and Fowey which was a lovely day too, but you do need a car to do that kind of sightseeing. I actually had a lump in my throat, as I waved goodbye to all the lovely people, who felt like friends at the end of our week. Thanks you so much Ali & Mike

My husband and I had not been to Devon before so wanted to get a flavour of the area. We are active but not hill walkers so were unsure how much of the guided tours we would manage and were prepared to do other visits if necessary. However , we were able to participate fully, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. There was a party of seven on the tours which quickly became a friendly, cohesive group Our guide, Michael, [and his dog Ellie] made the walks interesting and varied .Each evening he would discuss the next days walk, offering alternatives and allowing the group to decide their preference.
The terrain is varied with stony tracks,muddy paths and rough grassland so good boots are essential. English weather is unpredictable and we certainly needed light weight rainwear. The walks were significantly different but all included magnificent scenery.

From a warm welcome, to a cheery sendoff at week's end, Michael, Ali, and Ellie (our walking companion springer spaniel) made our seven-day stay at home Farm a perfect one! From our first hike, walking from our "home away from home" along the dramatic Devon coastal path, to our last day walking from Widemouth Bay to Bude, we got much more than we could have hoped for. The walks were always manageable, at times challenging, but always great. Michael skillfully worked the walks around the weather, so that we could concentrate on the beauty of the area. We walked through interesting market towns, visited ancient cathedrals, and took our lunches at several "free houses"(taverns) around the area. Michael was always engaged, knowledgeable, and happy to fill us in on the history and stories of the area.

Our accommodations were great. The food was excellent. Breakfasts offered choices from cereals and yogurt to a full English breakfast; lunches of delicious sandwiches or Cornish pasties; gourmet dinners, both in presentation and taste, using the local fresh produce.

What more can be said - they provided much more than they promised - a very memorable vacation with warm, attentive, newly-made friends. We sure hope to be back!

My walking experience in North Devon at Home Farm in Welcombe (pronounced Welcome) was delightful. Mike and Alison Stubbs are terrific hosts. The Coastal and inland walking perfect, accommodation and food, excellent. I can't praise it hightly enough and I'll certainly be returning.
