“Huge hotel inconveniently situated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2011

The hotel has a nice swimming pool and a lovely breakfast terrace.with fine views. The hotel is immense and caters principally for conferences and weddings, I imagine. It is in between Palermo and Monreale on a very long and narrow side road. The drive to Monreale is not for the faint hearted and the only car park we could find in Monreale was more or less deserted and pitch black at night. We decided to return to the hotel for dinner rather than risk the car park. The head waiter had to see whether the chef had packed up - at 9.20 pm! Apparently he hadn't, but we had to order outside the menu without any real choice. The food was OK and was very reasonably priced, about 85 euros for 5 of us including fruit and ice cream and a bottle of wine. One of our rooms had a strange plumbing problem. When the bath was used water seeped up from a drain in the bathroom floor and covered the entire bathroom floor to a depth of an inch or so. The maintenance man said that this was "normale" insofar as I could understand the exchange between him and the receptionist. As we were leaving Sicily the next day (Saturday) we asked if we could keep one of our rooms till 3 pm. We were told that this was not possible as the hotel was full that night. I found this a little surprising given the size of the hotel and the very few guests who were at breakfast that morning, but we had no entitlement to stay past the check out time and our luggage was kept safely in the hotel storeroom.

“Recommended and would like to return: Beautiful , quiet, friendly, bargain price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2011

Some people on TripAdvisor have clearly stayed in a different hotel! There are NO ground floor rooms, all was clean & tidy, pool clean, gardens cared for, staff friendly, beds comfortable. The "navette" (free bus shuttle to Palermo) was easily reserved (it goes at 9am and returns from the city at 4pm), the reception booked a taxi from the airport, with an agreed price (50 euros), and from the city centre back late on Saturday night (25 euros). The local bus goes from outside the door, and the interchagne was easy (but be prepared to wait quite a while, the timetable is not clear - this is Sicily!). The only down side was the truly awful coffee produced by the Nescafe machine - they have a proper espresso machine but no one used it. Drink the tea and hot chocolate instead. And don't bother with the bacon, such a thing does not exist in Italy - eat the continental selection and extra sweet pastries instead. They do have wedding parties at the weekends- if you are in a noisy room, ask to change (although the music stops by midnight).

Room Tip: Best price: 300 euros 5 nights from their site only. New wing-good aircon but more noise. Old wing...

“a perfect hotel for a relaxing break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 May 2011

The hotel grounds and pool were fantastic but the rooms were basic and needed upgrading but were spotlessly clean. The staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. During our stay our friend celebrated her birthday. The hotel offered to make her a cake and put flowers in her room, they also made her a card. This we felt was a lovely gesture and made her day special. The food was good quality and the menu catered for all tastes.

“Good service, friendly staff, but really dated...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2010

We got a very good deal and booked this hotel because we needed a place to stay near Palermo and Monreale. We did not really read any reviews or information about the hotel.
If you have a car, it has a good location, since you can easily reach Monreale (3km) and Palermo (8km). Don't be afraid of narrow roads and crazy drivers, though… It also has ample free parking spaces.
The hotel itself is huge - which is something I usually try to avoid – and it is really dated and would need a major rejuvenation. It seems to come straight from the 1980s. This applies to the whole hotel, the public areas as well as the rooms. There is also this intense odorizer smell in the hallways, which makes you wonder how everything would smell without perfume... You can see everywhere that everything has been used extensively in the last decades.
Nevertheless, all in all we enjoyed staying in the hotel. Staff was really nice, especially at the front desk. They had wireless internet, a pool, breakfast on a terrace, and as mentioned ample parking, and all this for a very competitive price.
The hotel is mostly geared to tour groups, which were probably promised "4 star hotels" on their tour - it is officially a four star hotel, but much cheaper (and shabbier) than a good three star hotel...
For individual travellers with cars, I recommend the hotel for 1-3 nights for exploring Monreale and Palermo. For longer stays, with the intention of spending lots of time in the hotel, you will probably be disappointed. And, by the way, breakfast (apart from the cappuccino) is quite poor, but that’s the norm in Sicily...

“Was a little sad to leave the hotel and staff, not knowing if I would ever return.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2009

We loved this place! The staff was wonderful. In fact, I recently mailed photos that we took with them. We had a relaxing stay; took the bus to Monreale a few times; walked to a local restaurant; drove to Palermo; enjoyed the pool and terrace. Food was very good. It was always my dream to go where my Grandma was from and settle in close to the locals for several days. For us, the Genoardo was perfect! We were there for 5 nights, then took a trip to Messina. NOT a good idea. The hotel was a dump. We called Genoardo and went back for 3 more nights before heading to Rome for a week.
