We arrived at Hotel le Parc at 1:00 Saturday afternoon to a locked front door that said they are closed from 12-2:00, it would have been nice to have known that they were going to be closed during that time. After a long trip we just wanted to relax for a little while before heading out to Beaune. So we headed to the town of Beaune, which is a lovely town only 5 minutes away. We then went back to the hotel around 5:00 to check in, we had 2 double rooms. You really can't beat the price, 50 euro for one room and 60 euro for the other. The rooms are clean, 70's decor, the bathrooms were very clean, but the beds were not very comfortable. We then heard about the nice restaurant ( Hotellerie De Levernois)
around the corner, so we asked the women at the front desk to make us reservations. We went to the restaurant, which was much fancier than we were expecting. The 4 of us felt very undressed to be eating there, so we went inside and told the women at the front desk that we had a reservation but wanted to look at the menu first. We realized that the prices were way out of our price range as well. Most items were 60-100 euros. We kindly told the woman than we were not going to stay for dinner. She was fine with this, then we left. We had a lovely dinner down the road near the town center. When we were heading back to the hotel we didn't realize what was about to happen. The 4 of us walked into the foyer of the hotel, the husband of the owner was there and he asked us rudely what rooms we were staying in and we told him. Then he proceeded to ask us very abruptly where we ate dinner and we just stared at him blankly. He then angrily said that we had reservations at the restaurant around the corner that we did not show up for, we attempted to tell him that we went there and decided not to stay but he didn't want to hear any of it. He was waving his hands at us and walked away as we were attempting to explain things. It was very rude and being costumers of his hotel, we felt very uncomfortable and unwelcome there. We couldn't believe that he acted like this. We tried not to let this bother us, but it obviously put a little damper on our trip. We were nervous every time we came and left the hotel, we felt like we had to run out the front door so we wouldn't have any more encounters with the disgruntled man. The rest of the experience was fine, and we didn't see him again. The wife was pleasant in the morning when we checked out. We didn't eat breakfast there for obvious reasons so I'm not sure if it's worth the extra 7 euros or not. If you want a good value hotel close to the village of Beaune, this is a good choice just don't do anything to make the owners upset. Our group really didn't appreciate being treated like this and we would definitely stay elsewhere next time we are visiting Burgundy. It is a lovely area with wonderful wineries.
