We decided to spend two nights in Beaune and use it as a base to explore the wine region surrounding it.
The Michelin Green Guide for Burgundy described this place as "simply charming". Boy, they "hit the nail on the head".
It is obvious that the people that own this hotel are not trying to chintz out. It is clean, well-conditioned, and has very expensive Grohe shower fixtures. The staff and owners are all good speakers of English, and are incredibly pleasant and accomodating.
At 52 Euros for two people, it also a bargain.
We also had dinner at a fine restaurant within walking distance, La Garaudiere.
Right next door is an incredible four star Hotel with restaurant, but with a menu at 98 Euros we decided to dine elsewhere.
If you take this recommendation, you will be very happy.
Just a comment about rudeness, since a previous poster mentioned it. I certainly experienced nothing but excellent treatment at this hotel, and for that matter throughout our two-week travels in France.
Certainly there are rude people in France, just like America, but I seem to find that people who have bad experiences in other countries, and make no mistake, I am talking about my fellow Americans, bring it on themselves.
Bon voyage !!
