“fantastic place will go again”

what can i say other than we had a great time at this resort and will go again without hesitation. the food has to be the best we have had in 4 trips to cuba, never a problem to find something to eat, not 1 meal (meat) was under cooked. the staff was great every where you went you were met with a big smile and a warm greeting. the bar staff were amazing before our glasses were empty Nelson or Robertson where right there asking if we would like another. the main building has to be one of the most atractive we have seen, all the plants the art and the building itself. the beach was fantastic even if it was windy it was still great to relax at walk on or fish off the pier. not the best for snorkeling but when we did there was lots of fish and shells to see. the drinks were fine to fantastic depending on what you had, my favorite was the brandy alexander, and the tiger just dont forget to ask them to add the run or they wont. as others have stated the rooms are a bit dated but that was not a bother to us as all 4 resorts we have stayed in were pretty much the same. the flight delay on the way down was a bit of a drag but not the fault of the resort that falls on sunwing and nothing you can do about that but enjoy the time you do have. they delayed us on the way home as well and were nice enough to pay for late checkout for us so as far as im concerned i will fly with them again. my only real complaints were other guests that seem to have no respect for others. two rooms on our floor had guys that would go to there rooms at 3 am every night and yell back and forth to each other from different ends of the hall waking us up every night, we complained to the front desk on the second night and they said they would take care of it but nothing was done this went on every night we were there. the only other problem i as well as others had was at the buffet when people didnt seem to want to wait in line for what they wanted and just stepped in front of others as if they were not even there. you have to be careful when on the beach as kiters dont seem to care if your there or not. we had friends staying at the resort next door and when they went to the beach some kiters came up to them and told them to move thats there area and your in risk of getting hurt if you dont move, not very good on that resort to allow that but what can you do about the actions of others. imho i do not see how people could complain about this resort we loved it and so did a lot of other guest that we talked with.

Room Tip: are room was old but didn't bother us much if it might bother you ask for a room in a building t...

“Windy, windy, windy....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

I stayed at this hotel from Jan 17th - 31th (two weeks) with two small children under 5 years old.
Small resort with good food (unless you are very picky). Everything is close, just when you need it and this is important with small kids (bathroom brakes etc.) Entertainment is great.. I've been there for two straight weeks and there was never a repeat show. Staff great, most of everything else is great. Great resort but here is my only criticism. Tip and you will be rewarded - like everywhere else in Cuba ;-)./

1). WINDY - it gets really windy there in December and January (really great for kite surfers but if you not one of them you will not be enjoying a breeze beach but crazy winds that you might not enjoy). Past 3pm there were not people by the beach because it was too windy to stay there. OK in the morning, but still not comfortable for many. I've notice that a lot of people preferred to stay by the pool where it was not that windy. Wind is cold and often times extremely strong so keep that in my when thinking about playing in the sand with small kids.

2) NO SCREEN DOORS IN THE ROOMS - I prefer to sleep with my windows open. Forget about it at this place. Your only option is recycled air conditioned air because the mosquitoes and other bugs will eat you alive at night.

3) NO BENCHES TO SIT ON THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE RESORT - If you are looking to rest on a bench, someplace quiet .... you won't because there are not benches to sit on. Sitting is only allowed in restaurants and at the lobby.Otherwise you walk straight to your room :-).

4) EXCURSION TRIPS sometimes will be mostly in French and you won't be warned about it so ask to see if your guide speaks English as well and is willing to use it. I was stuck in the bus with mostly French people (no warning) and I only got maybe 20% of all the information provided by the guide.

5) WEED ON THE BEECH -rather disappointing if you happen to have the low tide in the morning (it changes periodically somehow). Low tide beach is beautiful, wide and sandy, but high tide beach which happened most of the time during my stay is very narrow. Out of the four hotels in Guillermo, this hotel has the most narrow beach during high tide which is rather most of the time.

Room Tip: email the hotel telling them about your requests. I did and it worked.

“Ok, but no desire to return to Cuba”

Stayed at two resorts in Cayo Coco and here. This was by far the better of the two, however can not compare to other places for a hot holiday. Service average to poor. Tours boring. Food awful, I go to these places for the fresh foods and fruits and the cosest we got was a big bowl of canned fruit coctail. Not impressed. Won't go back to Cuba even though the beaches were beyond beautiful. I don't go on vacation to eat, but you kinda need food to live and this was the worst.

“Perfect!”

Service at this resort was by far the best I ever experienced! The excursions offered were top knotch! The buffet had the best selection. There was only 1 pool and swim up bar for adults but it was never crowded. There was always a light breeze and hardly any bugs. Rooms were a bit outdated but who cares your only sleeping in it for a few hours. If you Canadian you'll lose 10% of your money once converted to peso's. Overall this was a great place to stay.

Room Tip: Rooms on the bottom floor. Easier access with your luggage as there are no elevators all stairs. A r...

“Good Vacation”

We just returned from a one week stay Jan.17th to 24th. There are a few things I would like to mention since nobody else has. There is beer for sale as soon as you exit the airport (important to us for the bus ride)! The ride was about 40 mins with no stops. This was with Sunwing, which also had cold beer for sale on the bus. There are a lot of Jellyfish on the beach and in the water THEY DO NOT STING! So don't worry about them. The entertainment team was excellent! The staff that organize all the daytime games and activities are the same amazing dancers you will watch in the evening show. The staff does organize a trip to the local bowling alley disco on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We went on a Monday night with a large group. The bar was busy, but they did forget to tell us there was a $3 CUC cover charge. However, the beer was only $1.50 and the music and dancing were great. There were a lot of repeat customers at this resort. Some had been returning for thier 5th or 6th time. One guy was returning for his 40th time! The guests were mainly from Canada, Britain, or Argentina. The public restrooms tended to be smelly but clean. Overall we had a great time with beautiful weather and some great people!

Room Tip: Varadero Building is very central to everything.
