“Ok, but no desire to return to Cuba”

Stayed at two resorts in Cayo Coco and here. This was by far the better of the two, however can not compare to other places for a hot holiday. Service average to poor. Tours boring. Food awful, I go to these places for the fresh foods and fruits and the cosest we got was a big bowl of canned fruit coctail. Not impressed. Won't go back to Cuba even though the beaches were beyond beautiful. I don't go on vacation to eat, but you kinda need food to live and this was the worst.

“Perfect!”

Service at this resort was by far the best I ever experienced! The excursions offered were top knotch! The buffet had the best selection. There was only 1 pool and swim up bar for adults but it was never crowded. There was always a light breeze and hardly any bugs. Rooms were a bit outdated but who cares your only sleeping in it for a few hours. If you Canadian you'll lose 10% of your money once converted to peso's. Overall this was a great place to stay.

Room Tip: Rooms on the bottom floor. Easier access with your luggage as there are no elevators all stairs. A r...

“Good Vacation”

We just returned from a one week stay Jan.17th to 24th. There are a few things I would like to mention since nobody else has. There is beer for sale as soon as you exit the airport (important to us for the bus ride)! The ride was about 40 mins with no stops. This was with Sunwing, which also had cold beer for sale on the bus. There are a lot of Jellyfish on the beach and in the water THEY DO NOT STING! So don't worry about them. The entertainment team was excellent! The staff that organize all the daytime games and activities are the same amazing dancers you will watch in the evening show. The staff does organize a trip to the local bowling alley disco on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We went on a Monday night with a large group. The bar was busy, but they did forget to tell us there was a $3 CUC cover charge. However, the beer was only $1.50 and the music and dancing were great. There were a lot of repeat customers at this resort. Some had been returning for thier 5th or 6th time. One guy was returning for his 40th time! The guests were mainly from Canada, Britain, or Argentina. The public restrooms tended to be smelly but clean. Overall we had a great time with beautiful weather and some great people!

Room Tip: Varadero Building is very central to everything.

“Fantastic holiday!”

This holiday was the best ive been on! we arrived Dec 2011 for 14 days and stayed 16 (plane troubles) but the hotel didnt seem to mind. I emailed the hotel prior to my arrival asking for a sea view room and up high, this is what i got! The staff are very friendly and helpful. The star staff were very good also, arranging a trip for us to a cave disco (must be done)!!

I dont think this is a resort for small children, its a very relaxing resort and not much to do....But this is what i wanted so it met my needs.

I think when you travel to another country you have to appreciate your not going to get english food..... , they had different foods to offer, and if you didnt like their food well there was plenty of chips and pizza!

Driving your own speed boat trip was fantastic and well worth the money!

Some comments people are commenting on the roads.... come on its not a rich country and i dont think its fair to put people off with a bit of a bumpy ride.... it was wonderful to look at the scenery!

We had swans, elephants, dolls made from towels and fresh flowers in our rooms 90% of the time which was very nice!

Heat- 27-30 most days which was very nice!!

The bars stock local sprits but if you ask for the brand names they are more than happy to give you them!

Overall I will be coming back to Cuba and this hotel....

Thanks

Room Tip: Email the hotel and ask for the sea view rooms, they are very quiet and have ace view!

“Christmas Vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

We enjoyed our AI trip to Iberostar Cayo Guillermo very much. We were a family of 11, 4 children and 7 adults. The food was wonderful, far better than most resorts, with a good selection to satisfy everyone in our group. The grounds were wonderfully clean and maintained, however, there were not enough floral displays for some of us. The views were amazing everytime you looked out. The kite surfers were really enjoying the surf. We stayed in Baracoa, on the top floor and I would recommend this building well maintained. The rooms were dated and not as lux as some would like but I wasn't there to live in my room. Beds were a little uncomfortable, and all the pillows need replaced(pay attention Iberostar, low cost, increased satisfaction). Fresh towels and very clean rooms everyday. Very quiet in the evening which worked out well for us with kids. Pools were lovely, beach was beautiful. The STAFF were wonderful...helpful in every way, not condescending, great with the kids. We all enjoyed WALTER at the grill in the buffet restaurant, fantastic cook and an all-round good man. JUAN CARLOS with all his assistance made our vacation so much easier in arranging snorkelling for us, trip to Pilar. This isn't easy with a group of our size. My girls loved him and he was always pleasant even when he was busy. Good man. I really loved our trip, even though it was my first trip down south, everyone in our group, who are all world travellers, except for my 2 girls and I, all thought it was pretty much perfect especially for families. My sister in law would have enjoy more evening events with a social flair. All our best to DANNY with CATEC horses, HECTOR with the taxi, and CHU CHU for our awesome boat ride and adventure. Oh I have to mention the evening lobby entertainment... the living statues, the sax player and guitars set the right vibe for the evening. The phones were down for a time on Christmas day and some of the time the internet didn't work. This is Cuba, not Canada, and you are vacation, so deal with it. As for insects, the resort fogged every morning and evening, and we had no bites except from sand fleas at Pilar. Also no bed bugs for us. We will be back. Tip the staff as they worked very hard for us. Thanks Iberostar

Room Tip: Upper levels, sea side.
