“Great beach & a good stay, the food was only OK but not a lot for entertainment on the resort”
I stayed at the Almond Casuarina for one week in February on a business trip. I would rate the hotel 3.5 out of 5, but since that option isn't available I went with 4.
We were on the 4th floor in block 1, the main building and were happy with our room. Air conditioning and fan both worked well, and we had a balcony that faced out over the pool. Some of the fixtures in the bathroom weren't the highest quality (tub and sink were a bit dated, toilet paper holder was broken, toilet seat was crooked). As for the water pressure, it wasn't too bad. It was a lot better if you were showering in the mornings. Late afternoon it was a bit weaker, I think because everyone was showering at the same time.
Staff was friendly, for the most part, but not overly so (aside from a couple of the bartenders). They didn't overtly look for tips, which was nice.
The food was good, but by the end of the week it was getting repetitive. Dover Grill is the best restaurant as you can order off the menu for lunch and supper and the menu changes daily.
The beach is great, though the waves are big with quite an undertow, so it isn't a great spot for kids or people who aren't strong swimmers. There seemed to be enough lounge chairs.
There wasn't a lot for entertainment. Most of the times through the day there wasn't music playing. In the evenings there was music or entertainment in the lobby of the main building (Calypso Lounge) until 11pm. I found it to be a bit too loud to have a conversation and sit in that area.
There is wired and wireless internet available. The cost is $100 US for the week. We couldn't get the wireless to work the first day. The front desk wasn't able to help at all (it turned out it wasn't working and we got it working on the 2nd day). I was able to use the wireless internet in the room, in the main pool area and on the beach.
The location of the resort in the St Lawrence Gap area was great. We walked along the Gap a couple times, and went to Worthing Beach to swim with turtles.
Turtle Beach Resort is next door. We went and checked it out. It is a bigger resort and seemed to have more going on (and drink service right on the beach).
All in all, a good stay, but I am not sure if I would return to the same resort if I wasn't with a big group.
