“Lower side of 3 star”

The hotel as in the rooms and communal areas are in need of renovation and improvement. The furniture needs to be updated, beach loungers were old and broken, bedroom furniture was ok but bathrooms needed replacing. Cheap white plastic chairs to sit on in the entertainment/bar area.
Not much in terms of entertainment, the caribbean show was so loud we couldn't talk amongst ourselves whilst chatting.
Some of the staff were more than unfriendly which is unacceptable just in general in life aside of how you should treat your customers.
The food was ok actually, though you needed to book early to get a reservation and the menus they showed you were often not the ones on offer when you arrived. Weekly beach BBQ was good.
Shuttle service was good, I was worried as it wasn't bookable but each time we used it we got on no problem. There was wifi at the 2 sister hotels and it was nice that you could go to the restaurants there. I thought the other 2 hotels were better, the middle one didn't have a beach so for me the northern most hotel was the best. I would go back there but not to the Casuarina as overall it just wasn't great.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of our hotel. We’re sorry to hear that the room and communal areas did not meet your expectations. We are currently replacing the covers on the sun loungers. We’re glad to hear you made use of the shuttle service and explored what the other resorts have to offer as well. All of our staff are trained in the area of customer service and there are regular spot checks to ensure that high standards are maintained as this is of great importance to us. We hope that you will return to the resort to enjoy the improvements made. We would like to welcome you back sometime soon and leave you with a better impression.

“A great place to stay with a world class beach!”

We stayed for a fortnight and were pleasantly surprised by the standard of service and catering. I know the accommodation is not as modern as some but it is very functional and all that should work did. The staff were, with a couple of exceptions, always willing to go the extra mile to help and were invariably genuinely friendly. The food was plentiful, always available and very good. The same can be said of the drinks! The gem is the beach, so good we even got married on it; and the hotel handled that superbly as well. Going back for sure.

“Great beach & a good stay, the food was only OK but not a lot for entertainment on the resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

I stayed at the Almond Casuarina for one week in February on a business trip. I would rate the hotel 3.5 out of 5, but since that option isn't available I went with 4.

We were on the 4th floor in block 1, the main building and were happy with our room. Air conditioning and fan both worked well, and we had a balcony that faced out over the pool. Some of the fixtures in the bathroom weren't the highest quality (tub and sink were a bit dated, toilet paper holder was broken, toilet seat was crooked). As for the water pressure, it wasn't too bad. It was a lot better if you were showering in the mornings. Late afternoon it was a bit weaker, I think because everyone was showering at the same time.

Staff was friendly, for the most part, but not overly so (aside from a couple of the bartenders). They didn't overtly look for tips, which was nice.

The food was good, but by the end of the week it was getting repetitive. Dover Grill is the best restaurant as you can order off the menu for lunch and supper and the menu changes daily.

The beach is great, though the waves are big with quite an undertow, so it isn't a great spot for kids or people who aren't strong swimmers. There seemed to be enough lounge chairs.

There wasn't a lot for entertainment. Most of the times through the day there wasn't music playing. In the evenings there was music or entertainment in the lobby of the main building (Calypso Lounge) until 11pm. I found it to be a bit too loud to have a conversation and sit in that area.

There is wired and wireless internet available. The cost is $100 US for the week. We couldn't get the wireless to work the first day. The front desk wasn't able to help at all (it turned out it wasn't working and we got it working on the 2nd day). I was able to use the wireless internet in the room, in the main pool area and on the beach.

The location of the resort in the St Lawrence Gap area was great. We walked along the Gap a couple times, and went to Worthing Beach to swim with turtles.

Turtle Beach Resort is next door. We went and checked it out. It is a bigger resort and seemed to have more going on (and drink service right on the beach).

All in all, a good stay, but I am not sure if I would return to the same resort if I wasn't with a big group.

“So nearly very good....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Went for a short break, with a bit of trepidation due to some negative reviews on here, but it was better than a lot of reviewers had said. However, for a couple of hundred pounds per night all in for a couple (for the AI accommodation), the room wasn't quite up to it - not cleaned well (BIG splodge of brown goo right down the middle of the white wardrobe door had been left and you could have seen it from the pool!) and really a bit tired. We didn't want to spend hours trying to book the a la carte (it's a LONG WAIT to book) so had the buffet meals, and it was fine to very good, the al fresco BBQ by the beach particularly good. Pool and bar service both very adequate and the management was very visible (perhaps a reaction to the negative experiences of TAers who went before xmas?). Location was great and you had peace and quiet if you wanted it or could stay up and party. Just down the road were a few interesting shops, a surf rental shack and a supermarket. Transfer was quick and cheap. We'll be back if they freshen up the rooms, but for now, only 3 out of 5 and I'll be looking at the competition for the next trip......

“great place to stay”

We stayed at the Almond Casuarina for two weeks returning on Feb. 5, 2012. I had read all the bad reviews and was a little apprehensive to what we would find. I was pleasantly surprized. We arrived around 1 and the room was not ready. The staff welcomed us with a rum punch and directed us to the restaurant for lunch and when we were finished the room was available. Most of the staff went out of their way to make our holiday terrific.
Beach-the beach was terrific. Great sand and waves. Never had to worry about getting a chair on the beach or at the pool. Pools were clean. There were always towels available.
Room-We stayed in building 2. I would suggest this building as it was central to everything, the pool, bars, restaurants and guest services. Noreen was our maid and she was great.
Bars-bar service was good. There were 3 that were close by. The pool bar was a non-event. Didn't open until 11 and if you wanted service you had to get the attention of the bartenders as it was not staffed at all times.
Entertainment-This is an area that needs improvement. The dancers were ok, band was too but for the most part it was a sound system.
We visited the Almond Beach Spa and we were happy that we were not there. Very small and no beach to speak of. The hotel provides free shuttle service between the hotels and if you are lucky to get Ronald as your driver you will also get a free tour guide thrown in.
Things to do-Do not miss the fish at Oistins. We took the local bus for $1 USD each way. LOVED IT!!!!!
Dwayne and Johnny (bartenders) were great also.

Room Tip: If you do not pay for an oceanview I would say building 2 was great. Central location to beach, bar...
