“A Pleasant Week at Coconut Court”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We stayed at the Coconut Court Hotel for a week in January 2012. This was our second visit to Coconut Court. The first time was eight years ago and since then they have done some upgrading to their rooms as they are all air conditioned now with other upgrades to the rooms.

The hotel is family run and all rooms face the ocean. We had a room on the second floor with a view of the patio, pool and ocean. All rooms have a balcony or patio to relax after a day at the pool or beach. A continental breakfast is included and is served in an open air area with a view of the beach. There are ample beach loungers so everyone can have one while they enjoy time on the beach. There are several palm trees on the beach that provide shade if you want that. They also have a bar on the beach.

The hotel includes a restaurant and bar, a beach bar, activities desk, pool, Jacuzzi, and tables and chairs around the pool and patio area. Several times a week they have entertainment on a small stage in the patio/pool area. One night they have the manager’s welcome party with complementary fruit punch and rum punch. After the party they have an outdoor buffet of Bajan food and during the week they also have specialty food nights at the restaurant.

In front of the hotel they have a unique snorkeling area that is about waist deep in most places and some years ago they placed several artificial reef structures that attract lots of colorful fish. This area is now somewhat mature so it is fun to snorkel around and is a good area for adults and kids to see all the fish.

Our room had a partial kitchenette with a full size refrigerator, microwave and toaster along with a few glasses and dishes. That was enough to keep drinks, cheeses and crackers for light snacks and drinks available when we wanted something.

The staff at Coconut Court was very accommodating for whatever we were looking for. They would show us or tell us how to get around to various places we wanted to go. There were bus stops just outside on the street where you could catch a big bus or small van and go anywhere you wanted to on the island. We boooked a 5 hour Catamaran snorkel cruise at the activities desk at the hotel. It was aboard the Bolador with Captain Jeff. We only had 8 people on the 40plus foot catamaran that day and it was a great trip.

Some years ago they constructed a very nice boardwalk down by the water. About a half block down the beach from Coconut Court you can get on the boardwalk and it takes you down by various restaurants and hotels and down to Accura Beach where there is shopping and snorkeling right off the beach with the reef marked with two buoys. They have small places there to get something to eat or drink as well.

There are small and large grocery stores close to the hotel and an ATM about a block from the hotel so it is in a very convenient location. We enjoyed our second stay there as much, if not better, than the first time we were there.

Room Tip: Second floor or higher offer a good view of the pool and patio area and the ocean.

“Ideal place to relax”

Stayed for 2 weeks in January. Had very good weather, it did rain a few nights but that was fine. Paid for an upgrade and contacted the hotel a couple of weeks before arriving and asked for a high floor with a nice view and that was what we got. The room had a large safe which was free of charge. There was a good selection of tv channels for when we needed to have a break from the sun. The room was kept very clean the bed was very big and very comfortable. We had the free breakfast every morning which was fine. We had oatmeal, toast and jam, fruit, orange juice and coffee which is more than we usually have had home. We did look at the breakfast menu and it did look nice but we had a budget and had to stick to it so the free breakfast was very acceptable. We did eat at the hotel most evenings and found the food to be good but just a little bit limited in the choices available. We also had dinner twice at the Blue Room over the road from the hotel and found that the food was slightly different there and service a bit quicker. Tapas which was a short walk away and served very nice food although it was fairly expensive. Mumma Mia over the road from the hotel was ok but not as good as we had expected having read some of the reviews. There is a small supermarket near to Mumma Mia which sold most things you would need.
We hired a taxi and driver for the day at a cost of about £100 he took us to where we wanted to go for as long as we wanted to be there which was better for us so we did not end up going to places we had been to before or leave places before we had finished and it also meant that it cost us less overall. We did go on one organised trip and that was to swim with the turtles. We chose the smaller catamaran the Bolador. We had booked the 3 hour trip but then stayed on for the five hour trip which included lunch and was well worth the extra. Geoff the owner and skipper was great and when I had a panic attack and could not swim over to the turtles he came into the water with me and took me over to them. It was my birthday that day and it would have ruined my day had I not been able to swim with the turtles. So thanks Geoff you really help make my day. The Beach is really lovely and the water very nice and clean the small artificial reef by the breakers is great with lots of fish. There is also a nice little reef further down the beach just before the boadwalk which is well worth going to.
We also had our 30th wedding anniversary whilst on holiday and the hotel management sent a bottle of sparkling wine to our room which was very kind of them.
Overall the holiday was great very nice and relaxing.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a superior sea view or beachfront well worth the extra money

“1st Visit to Barbados & Coconut Court Beach Hotel”

Nice, affordable, friendly & clean hotel right on a beautiful palm-lined beach with a great beach bar (Antonio's wonderful personality.& mixology). Stayed three nights before sailing on The Royal Clipper. Very helpful staff. The restaurant sits open to the beach, very tropical, and the food was good. Friends recommended this hotel, and we were not disappointed. I would return to this property again.

“A Pleasant Surprise in Every Way”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

This hotel was a big surprise in a great way. We had booked a discount holiday from Toronto in November 2011 and were not expecting a whole lot as long as we had a beach & sunshine.
The exterior is not very striking, as the building is older and the best side faces the beach. But once we got in the lobby and met the staff, we were charmed. They were so friendly and helpful. A gentleman showed us to our room - and we were in love. The room was spotlessly clean and large. We had 2 double beds, a table and chairs, and a kitchenette area along one wall that included a full fridge, a toaster, a microwave, dishes and cutlery. Our balcony (3 floors up) opened directly onto the ocean...what a view!
The next morning when we went for our breakfast (included in the rate), we were really pleasantly surprised by the restaurant's beach front location and good continental breakfast.
There was juice, fruit, toast, cereal, and croissants. For an extra charge of $5.00 US you could order custom cooked eggs. Many people had mentioned the bird problem, but after all, this was an open air restaurant, so a little wildlife is to be expected. We just had to use a little common sense and not leave the food alone at the table or the birds would move in.
The next surprise is the beautiful big beach. The hotel is spread out, so the beach is quite long. There were ample palm trees to get shade and a good supply of beach chairs. The beach bar is quite funky and you can also get food right down at your beach chair from the bartender. There is a small reef right off the beach were you could snorkel and see a fairly good assortment of fish. We spent most of our time on the beach relaxing and just loved it!!! There were no venders bugging us, just peaceful relaxation time!! We were there for a week, and 3 nights of that time there was entertainment at the pool patio area which had everyone up dancing.
I see that some of the reviewers have not been so happy with the coconut Court, but I think that you have to go in with realistic expectations. This is an older family-run hotel with a fabulous beach and great staff. It is not the Hilton, nor is it a 5 star hotel, and that is reflected in the price!! You don't get 5 star quality at 3 star prices. In closing, I would say that it was a well run 3 star hotel with a great beach....you decided if that's what you're looking for.
