We stumbled upon this place on bookings.com when looking for a stopover on the way back to the Eurotunnel and I'm glad we did. It was initially more money than we wanted to pay for a stop-off but it was worth every penny. As soon as you arrive, there is an air of peace and tranquility and you can't help but relax.
The receptionist was lovely and she spoke much better English than we did French! Our room was spotlessly clean, it was evident that the whole grounds and apartments had been renovated to a very high standard. There were little luxuries such as robes, slippers, pillow mist, an excellent coffee machine etc which all added to this opinion. The only negative i can think of is that as there were self catering facilities we had taken our own food but as there was nowhere to store it in the kitchen area, i ended up putting it in the wardrobe!
There is a small pool and jacuzzi which was great for the kids and as the place is quite small you could almost guarantee having it to yourself too. In the evenings we sat in the courtyard with the other residents of all nationalities, however the place was still quiet and peaceful by around 10pm.
There is no restaurant but breakfast and evening meals in your room could be arranged if required.
Although this place is remote, there are plenty of very picturesque 'very French' villages such as Septmonts which is beautiful to amble around as well as the larger areas such as Reims, Soissons etc. The Chemin Des Dames and war memorials in this area are also interesting to visit.
It took around three hours on a quiet Sunday morning to drive to Calais and it was a very straightforward route. All in all I would wholeheartedly recommend this place (I would try and leave the kids behind next time!), it really is a well kept secret, one which is almost too good to share.....
