“Best Holiday i've had!”

I stayed at the Pelagos 2nd-8th July 2011 and literally had the best week of my life. I travelled with a friend and we booked literally last minute. Two days before we flew out. We'd had a lot of bother booking with other providers and finally settled on this hotel for £350 for a week through Thomas Cook. We could not believe our luck when we arrived. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds and upon arrival a extremely helpful man called masoud took us on his golf buggy to escort us to our rooms whilst giving us a tour of the hotel. He became a good friend often coming to say hello to us in the evenings and sit and chat. Our room was great. Two spacious beds and a good sized kitchenette. Air con and safe were free in the room and the safe was operated by a code only we knew so very safe. Only downside was that the shower did leak so we had to lay a towel on the floor to soak up the water. The cleaner came every day without fail to clean, make our beds and change the towels. We didn't eat in the hotels restaurants but we did use the telephone in our room to order pizza to our room. The italian restaurant cooks it and brings it over in a takeaway box for around 8euros. Very handy. Pools were amaaaazing and entertainment in the day was fun for everyone. Aqua gym, water polo, quizzes, dancing..but nothing too loud to spoil relaxing days by the pool. There were three pools. The main pool being the largest and busiest with a lovely pool bar that served very nice food during the day and had free wifi. I'd recommend the Club sandwiches. Great value for money, i could never finish them! The other pools were quieter if you wanted to be away from the music and games. Just next to the hotel is a lovely taverna that sells reasonably priced meals..including traditional greek food. Their mousakka was delish! There is also a supermarket next door i would recomment using. Much cheaper than the one on site. Evening entertainment was fun, drinks were a little pricey though. Our room was right next to the bar where the entertainment was situated so we to'd and fro'd to our room and made our own drinks to bring out which was fine. The beach was not so nice, we had a look once and made the decision to not go there, but i'm not really a beach person. Regular buses into Kos town which had nice shops, tavernas and nightlife! The thomas cook rep, steve, was very helpful and offered good trips at a good price. As me and my friend were both 21 we booked to go on 2 bar crawls. One to Kos town and another to Kardemena. It was 15 euros with both trips included and plenty of free shots in everybar. But the hotel was very family orientated and it was nice to be in a hotel where you could sleep at night without teenagers trashing the place. I would LOVE to go back here and would recommend a stay here to everyone. Sorry this review is so long but i just have so much good to say about this place!!

“last week of the season, October 23-30, 2011”

glad I got to stay here with only a small group of only 50 to 60 guests. I was so happy that the entertainment was not on anymore, that would have ruined my stay completely. I found it like this already rather noisy, hearing the neighbours walk and talk. Then I also did not enjoy the smoking of my nextdoor neighbours, giving me a share outdoors, but alas also indoors.
I had the junior corner balcony suite, which was great! Spacious and luxurious indeed. However, the shower flooded the bathroom, even when I almost flattened myself to the wall. I could only shower in the bathtub, which still caused puddles on the floor.
The lighting arrangement was rather puzzling, I could detect no system. If someone else would have stayed in the other room I would have been afraid to put the light on in that one by accident.
I only took breakfast and for me that was sort of okay, plenty of choices, but many foods not my style. I was glad to not have decided upon an all inclusive arrangement. That would have been not my thing. Staff was friendly and very helpful, also very nice with the small kids of which we had plenty around. The swimmingpools were huge and many, but the water was freezing cold, I managed to go in 12 times, but not more than 5 minutes! The Lambi beach nearby was soso, though the seawater was a bit warmer than the pool. Other beaches were better, but far away. I enjoyed those at 3 other spots, while biking over the island.
I rented a bicycle with batteries- for only 60 euro for 6 days- and took trips all over the island, put in 290 km in just 6 days!
Sometimes the hills were so steep I had to walk up and down part of the way. I did not want to crash speeding downhill! It saved me renting a car at least. For me just being outside was lovely, sunny, dry, strong wind, sometimes chilly even. I visited places where no other tourists were around, which is lovely! One week for me was plenty though.

“shameful all day brutal 'entertainment', sexist staff and poor quality food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011

We have just returned from Pelagos after a week's trip, having booked through Classic Holidays. We cannot fault the material standard of the hotel, which (in the new wing, at least) was amongst the highest we have ever stayed in (for that class of hotel) - but then we were located a fabulous corner balcony junior suite with views of the sea and mountains unlike some poor unfortunates who seemed to be located in dank bunkers.

The contrast between the high material standards of the hotel and its cultural ambience could not have been more striking. What the brochures and hotel website all fail to tell you is that you will be forcibly subjected to the hotel's 'entertainment' programme. This consists of music played at you while eating breakfast and any other meal you care to eat at the hotel (on which, see below). This noise then transmutates into a live 'entertainment' programme from lunctime, which blurts out across the hotel 'campus' for the entirety of day into the evening and late into the night (1 a.m.+). The volume at which this is pitched means that wherever you are in the complex you will be forced to listen to it - day or night. Retreating to your room, closing all interior and exterior doors and windows, putting on the air-con, TV or music in your room, putting in ear plugs or hiding under the duvet will not save you from the din. The only way of escaping it is to leave the premises entirely. Notifying this to the 'entertainment' team will only result in them turning up the volume on the loud speakers/megaphone.

The food in the morning and evening buffet bar was averagely passable for a buffet, but the a la carte restaurant was a joke. We ate there the first night and experienced amongst the most disgusting meals we have ever eaten anywhere ever. It's hard to imagine anyone getting pizza so wrong, but they managed to do so...it was revolting. To make matters worse, it was served up by a grumpy waiter who couldn't make up his mind whether to glare at us all evening or just sneer. The same kitchen seemed to also service the poolside cafe/bar, judging by the standard of the food delivered.
We avoided the poolside cafe because of the offensive behaviour of the bloke who worked there. Insisting on referring to my partner as 'big boss' and me as 'little boss' is not how we wished to spend our holiday. The unfortunate man, completely oblivious to his offensive sexism, thought he was hilarious.

All in all, it's fair to say we were a tad disappointed with many aspects of the hotel. Most shameful is the failure by the hotel or the tour operator to advertise the continuous 'entertainment' programme which you will be forcibly subjected to.

On the plus side, one of the best days out was had when we rented a couple of bikes and cycled to Therma. Not that the hot sulphurous springs there were any great shakes, but getting there takes you round coastal roads with amazing views. We had one of the best meals there - a couple of beers, sandwiches and icecream in the beach cafe.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a room in the new wing.

“You can't beat it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

We have just returned from a Thomas Cook holiday to this hotel. We are a family of 2 adults and two boys age 5 and 7. We sadkly were affected by the air traffic control strikes and so our holiday was delayed by about 4 hours. However reception were waiting for us and Harry (High 5!) greeted us warmly and took us for a tour on the golf buggy around the hotel fianlyl taking us to our room and loading up our bags. Our boys obviously loved the golf buggy. Our room was in the old part of the complex as we booked self catering. The room was clean and very well kept. The mattress was a little hard however for us oldies. Our grumbles are that the kitchen has only a double hob, no oven and cheap supermarkets are not close by. However the on site shop has the basics and the cheaper Maria's supermarket next door is OK. Eat the fruit on the day as it ripens so quickly. We ate at the hotel restaurant each evening and it is probably cheaper to book self catering then upgrade to half board or pay by meal , when you arrive at the hotel rather than book through the tour operator. As a small hotel, the food is fabulous, fresh and varied. There is enough pasta and chips to please children and a wide selection of fruit as well. Children under 5 go free and under 12 are half price in the food hall. The pool bar milkshakes are lovely, and beer is served in iced tankerds. Beach towels are provided and changed mid week, housekeeping clean your room as you request ( there is a sign for the door). The mini club was run by an English girl Amy and she was brilliant with the kids, the club is free and she does facepainting and a mini disco every evening. What is lacking is a children's dry playground but the pools are clean and plentiful, you enver have to fight for a sun lounger and there are plentiful umbrellas. The hotel caters more for the dutch and germans but more english are staying and they may offer an all inclusive aspect next year. The TV stations are limited for the British but there is BBC World and the kids didn't mind the german cartoon channel. The staff are amazing, friendly and professional. There is a football pitch and basketball, ping pong and the animation team organise matches , darts and quizes. The reception staff are always helpful and if you have any problem (our BBC World went down) it is resolved very quickly. You can hire bikes, morot buggies and quads at the hotel. Our rep was very good but I think you can get better value from organising your own itinery and don't go to paradise beach it's a sun trap and not good value for money, the facilities are poor and basically you are paying for a bus ride. Lambi is not much more than a B road into Kos Town, the green bus No 2 takes you from outside the hotel to the harbourside for a euro per adult. Book a boat trip on the santa maria for the day, and walk up the rambling back streets to find cheaper goods and better restaurants than on the quay. There is a wonderful pastry hop which you will see about 50m from the harbour on the Lambi strip (the road the bus goes down towards the dolphin fountain roundabout). You must try the sausage rolls here and the ice cream . Find the blue train stop at the rear of the agora ruins/knights castle and pay 5 euros per adult for a train ride up the hills to the askelepion ruins, lovely views and was free entry on the day we went. Honestly this is a great hotel, it is only let down by the poor investment in the local airport and in our case our tour operator. If you are going for a beach holiday take a bus or motorscooter to Tingaki, the beaches are pebble outside the hotel but the water is clear. In Kos the beaches are like one of the Costas. The hotel itself is fantastic. We loved it.
Some people have complained about their room location but even if you book through a tour operator the receptionist said you can email the hotel direct and request the room you want (within your price bracket of course) so if you are allocated one you don't like, call them up and get it changed.

“Enjoyable Holiday”

We have just returned from a week in the Pelagos Suites Hotel which we thoroughly enjoyed.

We had a junior suite which was excellent, the only problem was we never quite got the air conditioning to the right level.

The amenities and pools are excellent and the receptionists and bar staff are very helpful.

There is a small sand and stony beach nearby which isn't much to write home about although there are free sun umbrellas on it.

The hotel is not really within comfortable walking distance of the centre of Kos but there is a good bus service with a bus stop outside the hotel which takes you to Dolphin Square in Kos which is convenient for the harbour and shops.

There is plenty of historical interest in Kos town and we thought there was plenty of choice of restaurants.

The only complaint we had was that when we came to leave reception tried to charge us for drinks we had not purchased. It transpired that somebody else had signed some receipts and given our room number. Their bar system is obviously open to abuse and needs looking at.

Overall we had a very enjoyable holiday and we would'nt hesitate to recommend the Pelagos Suites

Room Tip: Go for a Junior suite
