“Nice gardens, good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2011

We stayed at the Apollon for one week in August 2011. The hotel is really nice, although it is a bit far from the city centre. The wind on the beach nearby is not so strong as on the Southern beaches, so swimming is quite pleasant. The rooms and the food at the hotel are good. Everybody tried to be very nice and helpful. The pool is clean, but you need to "reserve" the place in the morning. The only annoying thing is that there is no wireless at the hotel (which is really strange and dissappointing, since most of the cafes in town have free wi-fi). Nice stay, but I would not be back as I think wireless is not a luxury, but a need today.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back of the garden are spaceous and very quiet (in comparison to the ones around th...

“IT was an excellent hotel for the price. I'll be back!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2011

I stayed in this hotel in june 2009. I must complement the friendliness of the staff and great variety of good food. When I got the room I laid on the bed and it felt a bit to hard for me and I mentioned that at the reception. They changed the bed in 10 minutes. I was really suprised how kind they were. The room was well cleaned daily and the pool was really nice too. I must emphasize the price which was really really good/cheap for the 4 star hotel in Kos. I would enjoy coming back again in that hotel. I had a great time.

“Great Place Great people”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2011

Just back from a weeks All Inclusive, had a great stay at the Apollon, room was spotless and cleaned every day. Also supplied with clean towels every day. On arrival at 11.30pm the receptionist checked us in within minutes and then got us a chicken salad to eat from the restaurant. In general all the staff were superb, Sylvia on the bar during the day seemed grumpy but was the total opposite, but sometimes cleaning the bar came before serving the people! Food wasn't the best I must say, was very repetetive, but to be fair there was always plenty to eat and was topped up regularly. Would recommend a visit to Tigaki beach which was only approx 8km away. Hired a scooter from the place next door to the hotel for the day which cost only 13 euros. Would recommend to anyone for a holiday. 2 mins walk towards town there's a great bar called Flinstones, great value for money there, 2 euros for large beer and 3 for cocktails, then a little further down on opposte side of Flintstones you'll find a fantastic English Bar called Delons its a must, very quiet but great hosts, Fantastic English breakfast and has all the football on (if wanted) best bar we found in the week and there's plenty of them, All in All its a great place to be,

“Pleasant Holiday”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2011

We stayed here from the 28th of May until the 4th of June 2011. The hotel is in a pleasant location and has beautiful tropical plants and gardens surrounding the hotel area. The staff are friendly and helpful, the swimming pool area is very nice with plenty of room for guests. There are plenty of nice bars, tavernas and shops in the local area. The hotel is a 25 minute walk from the capital of Kos and is right next to the local bus stop, bus number 2 or 4 to town only 1EUR 20 cents, (buy tickets from the driver or in the local shops). Ignore what people have said about the food and the restaurant, the food is adequate and good enough, the service is fine as well. All rooms have air conditioning which is also a bonus.

Downsides were, the plumbing in the rooms is bad, after flushing of toilets in other rooms or running hot water, then the pipes make large banging sounds. The hotel is located next to a residence that has Cockrawls so at 0400hrs in the morning, if you have the doors open on the balcony you can be woken by them crowing early in the morning. If you are staying half board don't buy drinks at the bar it is very expensive, you are better off buying drinks in a supermarket and leaving them in the fridge in the room, much cheaper.

Arrange car hire at the Auto Bank car hire office one day car hire of a small Kia Picanto with A/C, full insurance for only 30 EUR, great value. The local beach at Lambi is ok, but a little dirty and is not sand, it is a mix of stone and sand, the water is nice and clean though. The best beaches on Kos are on the otherside of the beach, Sunny Beach and Paradise beaches are the best. No 9 bus from Kos town behind the main square, 4EUR 40 cent one-way ticket bought on the bus, buses run every hour, be careful out of season first bus is 0900 their and back to Kos from Paradise Beach at 1515, during the season you can get the 1000 bus from Kos and back to Kos the 1800 last bus. Buses can run late so be prepared for a wait.

Zia is a beautiful village in the foothills of the tallest mountain on the island worth a visit, reachable by car or scooter. Thermal Spring on the otherside of the island is also worth a visit, the water is 40 degrees! Acklepion is worth a visit, historic ruins, not good value for a 4 EUR entrance fee though!

If you want to go to Turkey, Bodrum for the day, go on Tuesday - Market Day, best deals on all sorts of clothing and items. BUT - arrive early for boarding as you have to go through pass port control and pay harbour taxes for leaving Greece, this is 4EUR 80 cents, the queues are crazy, arive at least 30 mins before the boat leaves and buy the ticket the evening before form the boat operator the MARIA STAR is the cheapest option from 15 EUR. We travelled with Louzmis lines for a 20EUR return ticket.

Don't pay for trips via the travel company/agent you flew with, they are very expensive, sort them out yourself in town for yourself it is cheaper and better value. For example a day trip on a yacht called ODYSSEY from Kos harbour only 25EUR per person, with BBQ, trip to three islands, music and swimming it is great leaves at 1000 and returns at 1730 each day, book the night before to avoid a full boat.

Main Toen of Kos is worth a visit the, castle, ruins, square etc, food is expensive but look around for good restaurants. The best beach areas are Kefalos, Paradise and Sunny beaches, Tigaki and Machistara. But these areas are far from civilisation and small, Kos town is where the main life is on the island.

The airport on Kos is very small and it is crazy when leaving. Expect delays on incoming flights due to capacity problems at the airport.

All in all a nice holiday, good hotel and area and well recommended by us 7 out of 10.

“A hotel for the masses”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2010

Initial impression was favourable although we were not aware of the two tier catering system. The sign in the dining room advised "Drinks for all - all inclusive" but when I poured myself a drink I was advised it was not for all and only for those who had paid an extra 13 euros per day for the extra lunch, drinks and snacks. We checked it out and it was not worth it if you were going out each day - which we were.

Room was clean and tidy and usual single beds pushed together. This hotel was busy. Heaps of Germans, English and Dutch visitors with lots of children evident. A huge stampede for breakfasts and meals but the meal times were restricted to finite hours and thus the hotel ran out of water at critical shower times (everyone trying to shower at the same time.)

The decor was overstated Greek with statues of Diana and others all over the place and the general impression after two days was of a holiday camp in the old Hi De Hi tradition. Meals were, at best ,OK but in line with bulk buffets at some of the cheaper family restaurants. We did find there was Greek food available at the buffets.
Hotel was clean and tidy, air conditioned but packed with people. Contrary to other reviews we found the pool bar staff very friendly and helpful and pleasant to talk to but I suspect we were one of the few couples actually paying for drinks!

This Hotel catered for a specific clientel with children and pool side activities.

Buses were frequent and getting to popular beaches was not difficult but the service was pretty eratic for some of the beaches 40 ks away. We found it was not a huge walk into town if you wanted to catch a bus when the timetables conflicted. There was a lot of worthwhile history to walk around in Kos and the port was a pleasant place to visit.
