Too far up the mountain. Nothing up there, unless, you have one of the small terraces, which we didn't. I am sure those are more expensive. There is a trail that you could walk. sort of pleasant, but would be 5 hour walk of the same scenery. decor was charming (old - lodge type),nothing special. rooms and linens were immaculate (my #1 requirement) beds were comfortable. view out of the window, but had to stand to see it. For us, there was no where to sit in the entire place for an enjoyable view. The restaurant was atrocious. My husband ordered the chicken curry which he liked, but the rice was hard and cold. Overpriced. The salad dressing: balsamic vinegar only on lettuce and tomato). I ordered fusilli pasta w/ tomato sauce and hard-boiled egg. I received bowtie pasta, a dollop of what tasted like ketchup, and milk (not even heavy cream) Are you kidding me - who doesnt know how to make pasta sauce. It was sickening. Free breakfast was excellent as was service (for dinner also) If you think you can avoid eating here and eat in Manteigas instead, forget it. We were served old cheese and unchewable salami at one of the restaurants there. .

The pousada itself is great. Location is perfect. It far from everything - it was took us about 30 minute driving from nearby Manteigas at evening and if you afraind of mountain driving, it's not your place. But the silence and the amazing mountain air pays back. The design is not changes from the 40s, when hotel was opened, but there is a fun in it. We had a big room with the amazing view to the Zizere valley and Manteigas. Room is clean and nice. Bed is huge and very comfortable. TV selection is funny, without almost any english language channels, but who needs TV at such place. Dinner at restaraunt was perfect and breakfast was nice. Only just two drawbacks - in additon to remote location, the place does not have any Internet at all, even no computer to use. And the second - we booked it thru Pousadas de Portugal website and no information was provided about breakfast, so suddenly when we checked out we were told it's not included in price. So, I advice you to check this when you check-in to avoid unpleasant news.

We spend 1 night here as an overnight stop enroute to Amarante. The hotel is very high up over looking the town of Manteigas. It has a wonderful lodge feel to it. Our room was comfortable and clean. We had a nice meal in the restaurant, portion sizes were a little on the large size for us. The only downside was there was no internet connection available, as we are booking our hotels as we go this was a little inconvienent but not a major hassle. It is certainly a relazxing place to stay.
