We had 3 nights in a room on the executive floors and were very pleased with our room. To be fair there is too much hype in this hotel for my liking with about US$ 3.5 million of gold bars set into the floor of the entrance lobby and staff dressed as coldstream guards (with bearskins) standing guard outside with rifles! The hotel has a casino spread over 4 floors which we did not use which is open to all.Our room was very good, spacious and of course clean and the breakfast was also good but not exceptional.
The hotel lets itself down on small items, we asked for decaffinated coffee at breakfast and was told that an extra charge would apply! The first hotel shuttle leaves for the airport at 11am, so anyone with a morning flight has to use a taxi. Our room although on one of the executive floors was close to a function room which was used on two of our 3 nights by groups of people who made a lot of noise, shouting and attempting to sing around midnight whilst waiting for the lifts. Finally we were asked to fill in a satisfaction card on checking out with one of the staff reading every comment that I wrote whist I was writing. Any comments that were even marginally critical were questioned on the spot and excuses made in the hope that I would change my comments.
The great selling point for this hotel is its position. In 10 minutes easy walking you can be in the centre of Macau which is a Unesco world heritage site and well worth the visit. We understand that Macau would like to be viewed as the Las Vegas of the east, having visited Las Vegas I can say that they have a long way to go. Would I use this hotel again, yes, but I would moderate my expectations.
