We booked Hotel President last minute thru macau.com and got a pretty good rate. It is definitely a 3 star hotel and nothing more.
We arrived after a long flight and long ferry ride. Check in was fine but don't expect the staff to understand much english. We booked a non-smoking room with a king size bed but ended up with a non-smoking room with 2 single beds. The only available king size bed was a smoking room on the 19th floor, we risked it anyways and luckily the room/hallway has no cigarette/smoke smell at all. However the carpets were dirty with patches of visible chunky dust all along the walls and furniture, during my stay I wore flip flops around the room. The bathroom had mold lined in the tiles! The bed is super hard and thin, you can literally feel the bed springs digging into your back. There is NO safe in the room, which is silly to me since you have to use the front desk's safe. The complimentary breakfast is super simple, almost a joke, definitely save your stomach for something better. The lobby needs a better sitting/waiting area, 2 arm chairs just don't cut it. Also be forewarned that in the night there are "girls" waiting in the lobby to pick up customers, it can be disturbing but Macau has this type of business everywhere.
I put the DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door and it was continuously ignored since I would get woken up in the morning by housekeeping or I would come back from a day of sightseeing and noticed that my room was entered and made up. I don't know what is the point of that sign.
This hotel is pretty old compared to the other surrounding hotels. I think the only positive point about this hotel is its location. Wynn and Starworld are literally across the street while Hotel Lisboa is a short 10 minute walk away. Be warned that no taxis stop in front of this hotel because of the steep slanty driveway to get to the front of this hotel, walk to Wynn or Starworld to catch a taxi or a shuttle bus to your destination.
Next time I would definitely spend my money on a nicer and newer hotel, I will not be back at Hotel President.
