My partner and I have just returned from a week at Tigaki's Star. We had room 209 and i will go over the negatives of it first. The shower was quite small and with a curtain rather than a screen which i didn't like much as it kept sticking to me! Also one bed was really uncomfortable (mine of course my partners was ok) but rather than letting that annoy me i just got one of the thick blankets from the cupboard and put this under the sheet which smoothed it right out and was then nice to sleep on! The positives are rooms were clean and quiet, aircon was very good as was fridge and both free and the balcony was a very nice size and view was great. The rooms are all in apartment like blocks which is very nice, the grounds were well kept and attractive. Although we didn't use the pool it was a very good size, very clean but i do think sunbeds would be a problem if you don't get one in the morning as when we returned in the afternoons there were none free which wasn't a problem as Tigaki beach was very nice and clean and nicely shallow.
Now to breakfast, i did think there could be room for improvement here, there is only one toaster which isn't very fast so creating the first place where i have ever seen bread waiting on top of the toaster as you would expect a towel on a sunbed! Also if you like a hearty breakfast there wasn't a massive choice, only bread/rolls, 2 types of cereal, yoghurt, melon, cold meats, cheese and boiled and fried eggs only. Breakfast is also only available 7.30 - 9.30 which meant that the majority of times it was busy, it seems you can get there before 7.30 which proved the most successful for us. I did find the receptionists helpful and it was great that on our last day our transfer wasn't arriving until 11.15pm so for €20 we could keep the room right up until then. Overall it was a good hotel with just a few minor points, nothing to ruin a holiday, we thoroughly enjoyed it.
As for the resort Tigaki was a good mix of tourist shops (i'm afraid i do like a bit of tat shopping) bars and restaurants. We ate somewhere different every night and didn't have a bad meal. Its quite a low key resort which is just our taste and i liken it to Skala in Kefalonia or Pefkos in Rhodes.
Now to the mosquitos...i never normally get bitten but did heed the other warnings and use insect repellent, obviously i did not apply enough though as on the 2nd night we ate at the Spaghetti Factory and i got absolutely bitten to pieces, i would definately recommend thick application as it didn't happen again after that.
For car hire i would recommend Sevi who did us a very good deal for 6 days and then on the final day we hired a buggy from Hard Moto which i would definately recommend for seeing more of the island.
