“This Hotel is Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

I travel and stay in hotels two or three days each week so have a lot of hotels to compare. This hotel is outstanding. Firstly its very clean and comfortable. The food is incredible. Prices are under £20 for a three course meal. The food is od such a high quality, other places would charge in excess of £60 for the same. The service is attentive but not too much so. I got to dinner 30 minutes before it opened but they served me anyway with great attitude. Huge bed, great views and incredible value for money

“Cheap and Cheerful”

Me and my husband are relocating to Norfolk so for us this is a very easy place to stay. The rooms, especially the family rooms, are huge - and we have stayed here many times in the past five years, and I can honestly say that we have never had any concerns about the cleanliness of the hotel, and I am fussy!!! HOWEVER it is not the sort of hotel I would go on holiday or that I would use for a romantic weekend - it is a cheap, magnolia filled, well located, clean base - there is nothing modern, trendy or hi tech here amd yes, the funishing may be a little out of date, but if you want something more modern or trendy or with a high standard of furniture; dig deeper in your pocket and go elsewhere - there are plenty of expensive hotels in Norfolk - if you want an easy place to book in, stay and use as a base - this would be a good option.

“This place is an 1980's shrine”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

I don't know where to start, whilst the staff at this establishment are very pleasant and curtious the actual hotel is a big disappointment to a non golfer, its like stepping back to the 1980's. The rooms are in a separate block accessed by a covered walkway from the main building. Endless bland corridors with the odd random French dresser along the way?? we stayed in what seemed to be a more recent wing, but never the less looked like it was circa 1980, sapele doors throughout, dated light fittings.

The room, whilst quite large was clean but full of nasty dark wood furniture strangely laid out. The dressing table had the tea, coffee, kettle, dated cups on an old school tray, but nowhere other than the bedside table to plug the kettle in, the modern TV was on a table with the leads stretched over the mirror. Water marks on most of the furniture. On a positive the bed was comfortable but the bed and its 80's throw had poorly fitted sheets that were too small, flat pillows and no spares in the room. The radiator was full of air and noisy if turned up. Very poor sound insulation between rooms, you could hear everything from neighbouring rooms
The bathroom...oh dear, special tiles, peach coloured suite, grubby looking Altro flooring. the toilet seat was stained underneath and did not look attractive, nor did the rusting rack over the sink nor the black mould in the shower enclosure. Strangely the room was of ample proportion and the bathroom could of been slightly larger and had a bath as well as a shower.
Didn't use the 'leisure' facilities but again the pictures on the website look quite dated.

Breakfast was acceptable with a selection of cereals and watery fruit juices. Filter coffee and tea was offered along with toast. When I asked for a full English, I was told you can only have five items of a selection list?? The cooked breakfast was cooked very well, and was tasty.
The rack rate for this room is £90 B&B, I'd say its worth more like £60

In summary, a very average hotel, but very dated, a little strange and over priced for a normal stay, they need to do allot better to command that sort of room rate, but I'm sure it would suffice if you were a golfer on a weekend break. Would I go back, No I'm afraid I would not.

“Very disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

I have had the misfortune of staying in this hotel twice in the last few weeks due to work. The first time we stayed, the room was very pleasant...although arriving in the dark, a warning that there was a path outside the window would have been nice..I'm not sure who had more of a shock when I opened the curtains in the morning, me or the golfers!

The second time we stayed the group was separated and I was in a room at the opposite end of the hotel, and there was a significant difference in the room quality...it can only be described as being like a youth hostel...no wardrobe and a rack for your shoes...very poor. On asking, I was moved to a more modern room, in the same area as the rest of the group...but you do have to wonder why the poor quality room was used when a more modern and cleaner room was available.

The walls are VERY thin, I was able to hear conversations in the next room word for word. Not very private!

The restaurant was extremely disappointing...I certainly wouldn't pay £15.00 for the breakfast. The first time we stayed, we all ordered beef medallions for dinner, and all received extraordinarily salty beef stew and dumplings. Several people were ill that night and the next day. The food the next time we stayed was much better, but still not worth the money.

On checking out, several members of the group had drinks added to their rooms that they hadn't ordered, and it was only on challenging the bill that unsigned bar receipts were produced and the charges removed, although we were made to feel grateful about this. Two members of the group had their partners stay, and were charged additional fees...despite initially paying a single person occupancy premium....and one person was charged £16.00 and the other £46.00. These were not inclusive of food as the food bills had been paid separately.

Overall a very strange experience and not once that I would chose to repeat.... On a positive, the spa and sauna are quite pleasant.

Room Tip: Ask for a modern room
