“Okay but not 4 stars”

Lovely clean hotel but unfortunately the hotel had a problem with the drains when I was here so the smell in our room was horrendous. I did report this but nothing was ever done about this. I was AI but the food was not very good with hardly any choice so I ate out after the first day. Entertainment team were fantastic. If I returned it would be on a self catering basis.

“Hotel in nice resort”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

We stayed at this hotel in mid September 2011 and had very good weather, which always helps to make a holiday.
The hotel has very good studio apartments, which were kept really clean.
There is enough room for a couple with maybe two young children and at a push you could sleep 4 adults. There are two single beds in one part of the room with large wardrobe, balcony door and with a good strong sliding door to seperate you from the rest of the apartment, [which has another door to the balcony.]
This other part has a bed settee, table and chairs and a mini kitchen in a cuboard. This is very cleverly done and has a two plate hob, sink, microwave, toaster, kettle and full size fridge. Also plenty of kitchen equipment to cook and eat with.
We only used the kettle as we were all inclusive.
If we went again we would probably self cater or go half board because the food was only OK and we liked to walk down to the centre of the resort in the evening.
The resort is very nice with a good beach and lots of bars and restuarants etc. There were peole of all ages out and about at night and a really nice atmosphere.
We found that we could walk to the next beach along the coast on either side of Es Canar and we also used the local bus to get to Santa Eulalia, where we could get buses to other parts of the island.
We were overlooking other buildings from our balcony with mountains in the distance so not very nice. It might be better to be overlooking the pool but that got rather noisy in the afternoon and evening with music and entertainment etc. Most of the people there didn't like the choice of music that was played.
The hotel is near the beach and centre of the resort and very near the bus stop.
I would not give it 4 stars but it is clean and friendly so I would rate it a 3 star.

“A half term break.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

We stayed here for the last week of the season. We had a very pleasant stay and for the money we paid it was decent value. Clearly it was the end of the season and things were being run down but Kevin, the entertainment guy who stayed until the end, worked really hard to make sure that everyone had a good time. We had three professional shows during the week plus the obligatory parrot show! Even the bingo was quite good fun!
Yes, the food in the restaurant wasn't really up to scratch but the snacks were decent. Breakfast was okay and if the food was cold there was a microwave on the side for you to heat it if necessary.
We found the bar staff to be very curteous on the whole. There was a wide selection of drinks and cocktails which were definitely not watered down. Ice creams were good for all inclusive and you could have the nestle equivalent of magnums and cornettos.
The accommodation was okay. The room we originally booked wasn't available and as a gesture of goodwill we had a refund on the difference of the original price, a fruit bowl in our room and a bottle of decent Cava chilling in the fridge.
We met lots of really genuine people who helped to make our holiday a fun experience. Watching my 14 year old son get up and sing in the karaoke was priceless. Thanks to the lads who encouraged him to do it!
We probably wouldn't return to this hotel because there are many other places to visit but I would recommend it to anyone wanting a cheap and cheerful break with a hint of sun before the onset of winter.

“You get what you pay for! The Atlantic is no 4 star!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011 via mobile

Just got back after staying at the Atlantic from 20/10/11 - 29/10/11. A group of 21 of us booked on an All Inclusive basis with ages ranging from 6months to 55. As the title says you get you pay for, I'd rate it as a 3 star at best but we only paid 3 star prices so we've no complaints. Approximately half of our group wouldn't eat in the food hall and thought the food was awful, I did eat there and could usually find something that was ok, but I would agree with the majority of posts on here, that the food was on occasions very poor!! The food from the Pool Snack Bar was much better and the kids enjoyed the Burgers and Chips. The older of the waitress's in the food hall was one of the most miserable people I've ever come across and never smiled once in our stay and one of the younger ones constantly chewed gum. The bar staff weren't much better either, the only staff which were friendly were the cleaning maids, who do a fantastic job and the guy who put the sunbeds and tables back on an evening, he always smiled and said hello. The Manager of the Hotel really needs to invest in some quality Customer Service Training for the majority of the staff, I'm sure the Chef would also benefit from some retraining aswell.
When we arrived the Hotel was full and trying to get served at the one small bar on an evening was slow and frustrating at times, once you did get to the front of the queue you could only get 2 drinks.
The bar area needs to be extended and equipped with additional staff to cope with All Inclusive customers.

Positives:
Price - Cleanliness - Room Cleaning - Fresh Towels in the Room - Maid Service - Snack Bar for kids

Negatives:
Poor Customer Service in most areas - Poor Food - lack of bar staff - small ill-equipped bar area.

Would I return? No, however I've no complaints for what we paid, however please don't book expecting 4 star service or food and drinks. Some of the above could be easily fixed for minimal investment and the Atlantic could start to work towards justifying their 4 stars.

“Awful Food - and I mean awful!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

Husband and i stayed here 10th - 17th October 11 on an AI basis. Having stayed at the Tropic Garden in June (also rated 4*) was hoping for something similar - how wrong could I be. Rooms were fine, living area a bit on the small side, but ok. Bedroom a fair size with adequate wardrobe space however it is partitioned from living area with sliding doors. Rooms were clean and towels changed almost every day. Our balcony overlooked the road - not the best view but could see the sea in the distance.
There were quite a few people who I can only describe as selfish - running around corridors, slamming doors, screaming at each other really late at night but the hotel has no security (that was visible) and did not seem to care a jot. Perhaps they were all suffering from almost end of season itis?
The food I can only describe as awful and I am not that fussy an eater. At breakfast, the bacon, sausages etc were swimming in grease and cold. The scrambled egg you could cement bricks with and had a "lovely" orange crust on it. I tried the cereal one morning in desperation but that was like cardboard. Most days I stuck to toast with a piece of fresh fruit. Lunches and dinners were interesting combinations - roast beef that was pork, carbonarra sauce that was split and curdled and looked like baby sick, chips so greasy....I could go on and on here. I decided to stick to salads most days however after one smallish helping of a vegetable salad (probably made from the night before's left overs as were many of the dishes) I was very sick. I did try the grilled fish and chicken on a couple of occasions but can only say I was dubious about how well the chicken was cooked and the upshot of all of this is I continued to be ill for several days and after we came home.
Most of the time there were 2 waitresses and the odd waiter who checked you in on arrival then cleared plates and served the drinks. The waitresses seemed more intent on enjoying a good gossip and one in particular chewed gum the whole time, even when talking and serving (perhaps it is acceptable out there?). I must also comment on the number of dirty plates that were supposed to be clean and for use. Given the amount of greasy food served up, the dishwasher setting obviously not doing the job.
We skipped breakfast one day and had a toasted sandwich from the snack bar by the pool which was ok. The chips served there were much better looking than in the restaurant by miles as was obvious by the number of people using the snack bar.
The hotel pool is rectangular and quite large.......but freezing. Even the kiddlies pool was cold.
The entertainment was the "usual" - mostly for the children with the obligatory game of bingo after the kiddies disco. The flamenco dancers were very good and made an enjoyable change.
I love Es Cana as a resort - it is small and friendly and a great base for expoloring with the bus station, ferry port and little train all on your doorstep but I would not recommend the Atlantic Hotel other than perhaps on a s/catering basis.

Room Tip: Pot luck really depending on who you get as neighbours.
