“Nice and clean”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

We spent a weekend at Johan Spa Hotel and would say that if you don't expect much, it is a nice place. Rooms were clean and service ok, even though there was only one person in the reception, and she seemed to be doing practically everything in the hotel, starting from changing lamps to selling beer. Early November meant few customers, and the main restaurant Pähkel was only open for breakfast. The hotel has a lot concrete walls, even in rooms, and that is IMHO nor cosy neither stylish. Voices from neighbouring rooms were quite easy to hear.

We had a package, "Meie kaks", which included room, breakfast, sauna, one treatment in spa and a romantic dinner for two. This last item was more or less far from romantic: as the main restaurant was closed, we were directed to Kapten Korts, a pub, which was totally empty. There was a young man, who told us quite bluntly that we could choose from three courses and we would have fried apples&ice cream for dessert, and all drinks we would have to pay for ourselves. Well, the pork was decent, typical pub food, but he brought us a bottle of wine, put it on the table and vanished. We opened the bottle and served ourselves. The romantic part was obviously the candle on the table, and we kept ourselves warm laughing all the time.

Spa was nice, the sauna with open-air tub was nice and I enjoyed the lava stone massage. What I did not understand was that we had to rent slippers!

There are several very nice restaurants close by, especially Vinoteek Prelude, fresh fish, good wine and very efficient and kind service!

“Great little hotel, modern rooms”

A good little hotel in a great area of Kuressaare. I stayed here one night, and had a fantastic night sleep. Close to the centre, and easy walking distance to anything in the town.
Room was very clean, and bathroom was spotless. I checked in quiet late and this was no problem, and off street parking was fine.
Knowing Estonian helped, but english was understood as well.
Staff were friendly and explained everything I needed to know.
I would stay here again, and perhaps next time have more time to use their Spa.

“Hotel with terrible service, drunk and yelling spa company and noisy sleep”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2010

We went there to spend nice and relaxing weekend at spa, but it ended up as worst holiday at all.
We had bought a spa package to the hotel where was clearly said that the spa treatments are for two person. It came out that these were only for one. The hotel recipient togehther with some other hotel staff yelled at us that we did not understand that. They did not appologise even once because of this misunderstanding.
Then we saw our room, which was very small and bed was very disorderly done.
When we went to spa came the most unpleasant surprise. The pool and saunas were crouded with drunk and shouting russian gang. They were jumping into the water, making terrible nois, drinking their own alchohol from big plastic bottle. There were no hotel staff to keep the order. Probably there aren´t any spa rules at all in this hotel. Besides that the pool water was so cold that it would have been anyway impossible to enjoy some water massage there.
The russian party lasted until the late night. As the ceiling was so thin all the nois came to all rooms and it was impossible to sleep.
And finally about the Nuovola bed treatment that was in our package. The description of it seemed like heaven, but actually it was totally pointless to lie there half an hour like wrapped into rubber boat. There were no massage or anything.
All the descriptions about the hotel and spa treatments at their webpage are so hyped up, but the reality is something totally different. There is nothing to do with friendly service or privacy in this hotel.
We have visited many spas in Estonia and all others have been very nice - like GO Spa, Grand Rose, FraMare Thalasso Spa. Actually this time we also went to GO Spa the next day and could finally relax there..Should have done this at first place.

“Poor Hotel with limited resources”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2010

This hotel does not match its website. The basic rooms are like hostel rooms and were damp and smelly. Both the restaurant and bar were shut in mid august.
The spa area was adequate but small. There are better places to stay in town for the same or a little more money.

“Good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 June 2010

Hotel has a very good location, town centre is just around the corner. The hotel is situated in a quiet area, but the walls are very thin and we didn't sleep at all before 2 am, before the loud music from the hotel bar stopped. There were no billiard or games room open, though they promised. Spa is very small, but it has it all. Even the outside pool was heated!
