The hotel is in a really brilliant location if you want to be close the Ibiza old town, right opposite the marina. If you take the airport bus then it’s a short walk from the stop just before KFC then head towards the marina and old town. The building is old but well maintained and quite striking.

I liked the staff, they were friendly and always said hello, even remembered when it was my birthday! The rooms are simple but better than I expected for a 1 star place that I hadn’t paid a lot for in the height of the season – I’ve stayed in 3* places that weren’t as good. The bed was big, the room clean and the bathroom was white, modern, basic and clean. There was a safe in the room which I didn’t use. There was a flat screen tv on the wall. The aircon was modern and quiet. Breakfast was a simple affair of toast, jam butter and a huge croissant along with coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice served in their café downstairs. The locals seem to go there a lot for coffee. I would stay here again because of its close proximity to the marina and the old town and because the staff were polite and pleasant people also it offered good value for money in Ibiza’s high season.

The only saving grace is the location, right in the heart of Ibiza, mere meters away from the harbour. Other than that, rooms that have seen their heyday in the late 60's at best, creaking uncomfortable mattresses, grumpy staff. And get this : they do NOT provide guests with soap! I asked at the front desk, and they informed me that NO hotel provides soap usually, it is up to the guests to bring some, like toothpaste and shampoo! Asked how many hotels he has stayed in, in the last 10 years, the staff member politely smiled... Apparently they only give you a little tiny bar the FIRST day only, and when I said that I had not even received that when I checked in, I was not even offered that said little bar either.

If you make a reservation here, you know what to expect: a small room with absolutely no amenities in an outstanding location. And the Hotel Montesol provides exactly that, no more and no less.

The rooms are (satisfactorily) air conditioned—a necessity in the summer—and otherwise there’s little to advertise. The beds are old. The mattresses are soft. Your room will be poorly lit and noisy. The furniture, towels and sheets are worn. The bathroom hardware is rusty, but functional. There is no Internet, hair dryer, toiletries, etc.

Make no mistake, your stay at the Montesol will *not* be the highlight of your holiday...but it’s also not a terrible option if you are set on staying in the heart of Ibiza town. The staff is friendly and the rooms are clean. It’s tolerable for three nights but more than that may be pushing it.
