Stayed here for 5 nights Half-Board with my girlfriend during September 2011. On check-in I found that the staff know a lot more German than English, but we made do with a bit of broken Spanish and the reception staff knew enough English to get by. During my stay it seemed as though we were the only British guests currently checked in, the hotel is very German centric, with a few French and Spanish.
The hotel is clean, simple and minimalistic, very true to its description. The Double Room itself was spacious and perfect for what I had paid and expected from this 4* hotel. The bathroom was a decent size, clean and modern, with an actual bath tub as well. The only annoyance were the double Twin Beds rather than an actual Double Bed, which seems to be a trend in Spanish hotels. Maybe you get a Double Bed if you pay for the Double Room Superior or Double Sea View room?
The hotel does seem a bit money grabby though, you have to pay for the safe in your room (€2.50 per day), which I know isn't horrendous but its usually just a deposit. Drinks at breakfaster are included, but they charge for drinks during dinner (if you're HB) including water; if you don't order a drink you'll get a confused response. Also the Wi-Fi is not free and neither is the PC terminal for Internet use located in the 1st floor, personally I expect a 4* to provide Internet facilities included these days to be honest.
The pool is a perfect size and well kitted out with sun-beds and parasols, also it was never too busy that you couldn't get a bed. Most importantly the pool and the surrounding area was very clean. However, some of the parasols are looking a bit tired and in need of replacement, when the winds picked up during my stay our parasol actually blew over and fell into the pool while others were swimming, it could have done some damage.
The beaches are very close and the smallest rockiest of all beaches is literally outside the hotel, its location is perfect for amenities, beaches, bars, restaurants and transport.
Now to the food. Breakfast was OK, as in it filled a hole. The were the typical assortment of cold meats and cheeses. The cheeses were OK, however, the meats were very greasy and some blatantly mechanically recovered. The bread for making toast was tough and stale. The baked goods were horrendous (except for the croissants) most of the baked foods tasted horrid and very chemically, they were clearly bulk purchased and out of a box, pumped with chemicals to keep them alive longer.
Scrambled egg, grilled tomatoes, fried mushrooms, pancakes, fried eggs, baked beans and bacon were available for those that wanted a cooked breakfast and couldn't be faulted. There was also salad, boiled eggs and sometimes pâté (which was nice when it was around) available. Then the general assortment of teas and cereals. The worst had to be the coffee machine, it was utterly disgusting so I stuck to tea. The juices in the big vats weren't very nice either, they had an orange juice, apple and pineapple. The orange juiced tasted of fruit squash (aka Robinson's) rather than juice and the apple juice tasted very chemically.
The dinner was very hit and miss also, if I was to return I think I would just go for the breakfast and not the HB to save money and pickup nicer food elsewhere (like the wonderful Bar Lago Restaurant down the road).
One final point, it would be nice to see more consistent English translations of food and the blackboard lunchtime specials, everything seemed to often only be translated into German. Even my questionnaire and "Thanks for Staying" letter pushed under my door on my last day was in German! But at least I learnt what Knoblauch is now!
In short the hotel is lovely and looks really nice compared to some of the alternatives in the area. There are some rooms for improvement though. But if you're looking for a week away in the sun, this should do the trick!
