“Loved this place!”

This was such a good find! We really didn't want anything tacky, and this wasn't at all. We stayed for a week at the end of June into July, and it wasn't too busy at all but lovely and hot! The pool is lovely and the apartments are simple but very spacious! The small restaurant at the hotel is delicious, and lovely for eating a lunch by the pool. It wasn't a large complex which was perfect. We hired a car which did make the trip a lot easier, but it's not a long walk to skala, although it is up quite a long hill...! The staff were very friendly and lovely, and we'd definitely go back!!!!

Room Tip: Higher floors have better views, and the apartments on the East are slightly more separate from the...

“Very relaxing holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

We stayed from the 15th Sept to 29th Sept and would say it was an ideal hotel for a relaxing holiday, we had room 121 which was a one bed first floor apartment which had a large balcony with a fantastic view over Skala and the coastline, the rooms are very spacious and clean with a kettle, two ring hob, microwave, fridge, ample cooking equipment and plates mugs etc, and air conditioning at 5Euro per day, the staff are very helpful and will do anything to make your stay enjoyable, there is a safe in the room which is free and two computers in the reception with free internet connection, we had a car which we picked up at the airport for the whole of our stay which is a must as the walk to the center of Skala is far to long if you do not have a car you would need a taxi all the time, our last week was very quite as there where only 6 couple there in fact on our last day there was only one other couple left as the hotel closes down at the end of Sept
The only reasons for not giving this hotel an excellent was one, the included breakfast got a bit boring having the same things every day (you can order other such as cook breakfast at extra cost) and two the boring back ground music that they repeat over and over again and as our apartment was next to the dining and pool areas i would have been quite happy without it. We only had dinner one night which was fine but as there are many restaurants in the town, (all very good) so we tried quite a few of them. All in all a very good hotel we would love to go again.

Room Tip: you need a car, and some rooms face the reception building

“Good place to unstress”

We stayed for 18 days in Asteris Skala and we enjoid it very much. We had a double-room app. nr. 126. Very spacy and with a beautiful view. It was so relaxing to start your day with a cup of tea and a sandwich on your balcony!! The room was resonably clean and the towels were changed every day. The bed every 2 days. The only minor thing is the bathroom. After some adjustments we did ourselve - reparing the showerhose en the toiletseat - we could 'survive'. But the bathroom surely needs an update. All the people who work there are very nice and do almoust everything to make your stay as pleasant as possible! The pool is nice and cleaned every day. Only when all of the guest use the pool, it's to crowded. But overall it's spacious enough. The food in the restaurant is delliciously made by Sophia!! If you are looking for a nice and quiet place to stay with a beautifull view, We can recomment Asteris!!

Room Tip: room 126, spacious 2-room app. with a beautifull view

“Top notch”

Just returned from a great week at the Asteris. Great hotel with very high standards of cleanliness. Lovely pool area with the best views in Skala. It is quite a way up from the town so a car is necessary, or it is only a 6 euro taxi ride. BBQ night was good fun and fantastic value as well. Overall, can't think of one complain we had all week. Looking forward to returning next year.

“Best Greek island accomm we've stayed in”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

We've stayed at self catering accommodation on numerous Greek islands over the years and the Asteris is the best (so far!). It is in an elevated location with great views, a five minute 6 Euro taxi ride from Skala. Our studio was spacious, cleaned thoroughly every day, and there were frequent changes of bedlinen and towels. The view from our studio was awesome and the Asteris site was very well kept. The owner ran a free shuttle bus into Skala twice every night, reception & bar was manned til midnight and the restaurant served until very late. Staff were all very helpful and pleasant, without exception. The pool is excellent and there are 2 computers with free internet.

Thomsons, the tour operator we used, understate the high standards of the Asteris - besides the above there were plenty of free pool towels. Thomsons also fail to make clear that air-conditioning and your safe key are included in the price you pay. Everywhere else we've been these have been charged as extras, usually adding another £100 or more for a 2 week holiday.

Thomsons overate Skala, though - it is, in our view, a scruffy, poorly maintained village that really should clean itself up for the tourists who spend so much money there. For such a small place Skala has several good restaurants - the 'Manor House' and 'Siroco' to name but two.

If you plan to hire a car or take coach trips around the island then the Asteris makes a perfect base, we'd say - local coach operators will pick up at the hotel. Thomson trips follow the same itinerary as local trip operators but at inflated prices - use Panem in Skala. Argostoli shopping was good - look out for the huge turtle near the fishing boats at the harbour. Boat trips from Skala beach were fun - expensive but a good day out. Highlight was a lunch stop at Kioni on Ithaki.

Room Tip: As has been previously said the rooms behind reception have obscured views.
