“Hotel Continental, Lovere - Room for Improvement”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2011

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights at the Hotel Continental in Lovere. It's an adequate place to spend a few nights, but not a great hotel.

The hotel is conveniently located, just on the outskirts of Lovere, on the Lago d'Iseo. It takes around 10 min to walk into the centre of town, and there is a pavement all the way there. The hotel has an underground car park, and is well suited to people touring the area by car.

Our room had a view over the lake towards the mountains, and was decently sized, with a large bathroom. There was a small TV, which unfortunately has no English channels (in fact, only has Italian channels, no French or German etc). The light in the corridor outside the room didn't work, and the staff acknowledged this fact when we arrived, but showed no signs of any desire to fix it, so this meant that we had a bit of a fumble in the dark to open the door every evening. The room was not brilliantly clean when we arrived, in fact there was a 2-Euro piece in the corner of the room, which shows how sloppy the cleaners must be! And my wife had to ask for a bottle of cleaner to clean the bath on arrival.

There is breakfast included in the price of the room, which is served as a buffet. There is a small selection of cereals, yoghurts, cold meats and cake. And you can order coffee as required.

The best feature of the hotel was definitely the staff, who were very helpful, and were happy to provide advice (in English) on local facilities, and to print out directions when needed. They really made it a pleasure to stay there, and compensated for any weaknesses in the accommodation itself.

So, to summarise, this is a well-located hotel, offering rather average accommodation, but with great staff. Stay there, but only if you get a good rate!

“Budget hotel with excellent service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2010

We based ourself at Hotel Continental for a relaxing holiday in the Italian Lakes. We booked flights, hotel and car through Expedia. The Hotel is situated midway between the quaint old town of Lovere and the more modern port.

The hotel is relatively basic but you do get what you pay for. The rooms are large enough and kept clean. I presume because we booked a last-minute, low-cost trip we were given a room at the back, without a sea view. This wasn't an issue as we didn't spend much time in the hotel.

A continental breakfast was included in the price. This included excellent coffee, rolls, croissants, cake, fruit, yogurt and a wide range of jams. Eat as much as you can but don't be late as they close the door to the breakfast room punctually.

The hotel is not a resort hotel so you won't find comfortable places to relax. If you would like a day by the pool then walk down the hill and go to the public swimming pool. It's an outdoor pool with water slides and a very large grass seating area.

The most striking aspect of the hotel was the service from the staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Our room was situated near the lift, which was a little noisy. So we asked to be moved and were given a choice of rooms and told that the housekeeper would move our bags. On the last day of our stay we had a problem with our hire car. The manager helped us deal with the rental company, tow-truck man and arranged a taxi when they were very hard to come by.

“Unattractive Concrete Eyesore”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2010

Quite shocked when we firsrt saw it ugly tucked behind a huge factory, no views of the lake only graffitted brick walls above a supermarket. Lacking in any charm, needs serious overall re great big balconies with flower boxex that havnt been watered in years and empty flower box holders on all balconies could make building look so much more inviting. Stains all over carptw whcih have sen beter days.
Rooms are small but adequate and clean beds cheap and uncomfortable. Staff nice and breakfast buffet is more than adequate. Lovere not up to much, Iseo much nicer,
Dont bother with this hotel there are much nicer places to stay but it is cheap.

“Excellent hotel - would thoroughly recommend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 April 2010

We booked this hotel on line, whilst staying in Interlaken in Switzerland. We were not sure what to expect but upon arrival we were pleasantly surprised. The added bonus was to find secure underground parking for hotel guests, which was monitored by CCTV and a barrier at the entrance/exit. The staff speak a little English and really try to help. We were given room 108, which overlooks the lake and has a very good size balcony. The room was very clean but did smell slightly of cigarette smoke. However, the receptionist quickly provided us with an air freshener to help eliminate this and once the room was aired, all was fine. The hotel is well located for the lake and the local shops. There is a local supermarket on the ground floor, which provides everything you might need and at very competitive prices. The hotel room had a small fridge so we were able to keep a few cold beers, water and milk. We took our own travel kettle and cups and were able to make ourselves a cup of tea in the mornings. The cold buffet breakfast was plentiful and varied and the Restaurant called La Campagnolo, which is just over the main road on the right, served up very good food and at quite reasonable prices. Angelo, who ran the restaurant is a real character.

The hotel proved excellent value and I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for anyone wanting a clean, comfortable and a friendly Italian place to stay.

“A good option for a car holidays but it needs some improvements”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2010

This was part of a car travelling holidays in Italy. The hotel is located on a small village near the lake and it’s located very closed to the city centre that you can reach on a 5 minutes walk. The hotel looks that was very glamorous on the past but it’s not on a good shape on today days. The room has basic furniture, but it was clean and spacious. The Air Conditioned for the room was very curious as we need to call the reception to change the temperature of the room. The breakfast was very bad: the options were limited, quantity was very small and some products do not look very fresh. The hotel includes also a free closed parking space that was very helpful for us.
