“Very Quiet Hotel in Hilltop Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2010

I booked a superior room which I found small, especially the bed.

The location on a hilltop near an old large fort and in a small old town is very nice.

The poor across a narrow cobbled street from the main hotel is small but offers excellent views and is very relaxing.

The restaurant offers a limited menu that would become irritating after more than 3-4 days. Like all Pousadas, the menu is very local and regional and so may not be to everyone’s taste.

The service is very good. There is a terrace beside the restaurant that is not used and which I felt would be a nice place to eat.

The old town offers no real facilities and it is not practicable to walk to the adjacent new town for a meal or drinks. The road is too narrow and steep and the distance too great.

The hotel is very good value, especially with the promotions being offered by the Pousada chain.

Charging €5 for an hour’s Internet access is a bit unreasonable these days.

“Seriously steep approach road”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 May 2010

In March the restaurant food proved to be one of the strengths of this hotel.
Set in a hilltop village the approach in a hired car was seriously alarming. This is not just the elbow bend on the steep road, but the final cobbled section (still steep) with a blind bend in the middle. (Of course, away from the motorways northern Portugal is not for the faint-hearted driver!) As a base for touring this seems a serious impediment.
Our room was rather dark but the hotel is pleasant and the village attractive to walk around. Parking seems quite limited though in March that was not a problem.

“Beautiful romantic weekend”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 April 2010

I recently stayed in this hotel with my husband during 1 weekend. The location is perfect, inside the castle limits, the rooms are confortable despite a bit small. Breakfast was not as good as in other Pousadas around Portugal. We have made the reservation through the internet and filed a complain while there because we booked a superior double room and they were not available when we arrived. It was a central informatic problem, the personel was very friendly trying to resolve this problem. I recommend the hotel for a romantic weekend, there are lots of places to walk around with beautiful landscapes. We have also enjoyed visiting the nearby caves (Grutas de Mira d'Aire) and also near to the hotel there is a traditional snack-bar owned by very friendly old couple that goes on telling stories on the region.

“Very Nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2009

Very nice. Substantially cheaper tha Pousda Castelo in Obidos, Ourem is not as cool as Obidos but one can wander around the hillock and its pretty cool. Rooms probably wre nicer and more modern than Obidos as well. All the pousada restaurants we ate in wre good if a little expensive and often had fancier dishes than could be successfully mastered by the kitchen. We nonetheless enjoyed our stay.

“Beautiful Village”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2009

We arrived by the back road, and we were visually impressed with the hotel and its setting. Ourem is a beautiful hilltop village, and the views are splendid. You enter the hotel, bypassing the most incredible display of fuchsia flowers, and once inside we were offered fresh lemonade and directed to our room. The room is nice, but kind of ordinary. I was expecting something more unique. Breakfast was good, but nothing special. The only problem was finding some place to eat dinner. The pizza place that several people had mentioned was closed, so we ended up at a local sports cafe and had the last two pastries and a couple of glasses of the house wine. Apparently Orem goes to sleep early, and everything is dead by 10:00pm. Overall, the hotel is located in a beautiful village, and it's worth staying here if you are visiting the area and need a pretty place to spend the night.
