One of our 2 rooms in the main building has a large balcony with view of the valley. Excellent breakfast. The decor is a bit simplistic, unlike the paradores in Spain.
Unless you are driving, this hotel is not convenient at all to reach with public transportation or taxi. Also be mindful if your primary objective is to visit Fatima, although it's a mere few kilometres away, Ourem is on the other side of the hill so it takes about 30 minutes to reach.
We agree with one of the reviewers who mentioned that the approach from the castle is much more dramatic (hence more heart-stopping as well). If you follow the "Pousada" signs from the town center, you will reach the hotel via the more direct route, which is still impressive by American standard, but not unusual if you have visited the hilltowns of the Luberon or Umbria. So if you are adventurous, you can either take the ascent on the left hand side at the foot of the hill as soon as you leave town (past the roundabout where the school/open fair is located) - ignoring the sign directing you to bear right towards the shorter route to the pousada. Once you reach the top of the hill, you may have to ask for direction to the castle. From the castle, you will arrive at the pousada on your descent.
