“grand hotel - it's changed name”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2011

A few tweeks and this is a great value hotel.
I think it’s changed owners since previous reviews as there was no reference to Hilton.
The breakfast was terrific. There are eggs in the restaurant, but they will cook poached, fried or scrambled fresh for you. The staff are warm and friendly and do everything to help.
We returned from a day out and they were having housekeeping issues and our room hadn’t been cleaned and linen changed. They sent us to the bar and ordered complimentary drinks while they attended to it. I think there are a few staff problems but new owners are working through it.
There is free airport shuttle bus which is reliable. We flew to Barcelona from here so it came in very handy. They also picked us up on our return. Just phone them and they send the bus, as they are not allowed to park at the airport. Takes about 15 mins.
They will also take you to the train station in town, or wherever you want to go.
We got them to take us to Malpensa airport where you can get the express train to Milan for 7 euros, takes about 40 mins.
Very comfortable beds and nice soft pillows, a real treat for Italy.
I just wish all hotels would give guests 2 pillows, one soft, one hard, so you could have the choice of your preference.
One thing I particularly liked was a very subtle LED night light in the bathroom that changed colour. No stumbling around in an unfamiliar room in the dark in the middle of the night!
The shower heads were dodgy quality and ours broke, but they immediately gave us another room.
They actually provide good quality Neutrogena toiletries, which I appreciated.
It is situated on the edge of the town of Sommo Lombardo, which is a bit ordinary but does have an outstanding castle in the middle of town and a wonderful restaurant opposite for fine dining.
Overall, good value and handy for flights.

“Nearly....but not quite”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

We booked this hotel, as we were going to Milan for a very last minute trip for the Formula one. Hotels were £00's more for city centre. We stayed a total of 2 nights, the hotel is very impressive inside and has nice touches such as free Wi-Fi, printer room and airport shuttle.

Breakfast was pretty standard for a European buffet breakfast....nothing quite beats English fry ups!?

the airport shuttle is essential to get the bargain out of this hotel! We used it every day, we got our transfer then went to airport to either Milano central or the historic centre train station.

the idea of the shuttle is very good, and you really would be stuck without it as the airport is 20mins or 20euro away!

however!!!

we were told to pre book the taxi to ensure it wasn’t late etc...it was late every single time we booked it!! the 2nd time it was over an hour late!!! very frustrating, but hard to complain when free!

The rooms were not cleaned to a high enough standard, I noticed on the 2nd day parts of the bathroom had not been cleaned at all!! also bits from our room service were not removed when the room the cleaned. We felt that for a 4star there was just a lack of detail missing, for example, the room has free water in the fridge...1 still and 1 sparkling....we took the still and they replaced it with sparkling....therefore 2 sparkling even though it’s obvious we like the still!???

maybe we are too picky?

overall...this hotel is perfect for airport stay and as a bargain, last minute choice for city centre....although they need to improve their customer service and room cleanliness.

Think I would pay more...have less stars and stay in centre for Milan in the future.

“Don't let the photos fool you!”

Find a piece of scrub land on the outskirts of a nowhere Italian town, build a hotel as fast as you can, slap the word 'Hilton' in there and wait for unsuspecting travellers! This is not the 'Lakes', it's not even the airport, it's not anywhere. Hotel is clean, basic (typical Hilton Garden hotel, nothing wrong there for a quick stopover) but you'll need a car to do anything other than sit in your room/ bar. No outside seating/ tables, certainly no pool despite the promise of one on one web site. Italy and you can do so much better.

“average airport hotel away from airport.”

We have been we to this hotel for 2 nights in july.
If you want to see Milano or to do holidays just book something else.
The standards are ok but the area is far away from anything and also from the airport!

“Manage your expectations”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2011

Oh boy, was this the way not to end my trip in Italy. First, no fault of the hotel, but the airport is pretty deserted at late hours so it's hard to get info on if there is a shuttle, where to meet it etc. The taxi drivers were the most helpful - they called the hotel to find out rather than take me for the proverbial ride.
But the hotel was: noisy, itchy sheets, absolutely no late night food save a small vending area taht looked like a 7-11, no internet service though they promise it....My flight was at noon the next day and I should have sprung for the train fare into Milan for a nice late night spritz or beer and a nice bed.

Room Tip: ask for a quiet room
