Stayed at The Devonshire Arms a couple of years ago, so when we found ourselves in the area again we decided on a second visit. Having found the front rooms a bit noisy the last time (due to the crossroads) we were offered the garden annexe but when we arrived we'd been "upgraded" - to the front .......... This was soon fixed with a front location away from the crossroads and all was well!

Food is great - both evening and breakfast and we were just sorry not to have more time to relax and enjoy the gardens. The staff are lovely and we would definitely return.

This was our 2nd visit to the Devonshire and this visit wasn't as good as our last. The setting is as beautiful as ever but certain things let it down this time.
We were allocated room 1. It had a very low sloping ceiling which made access in and out of bed - especially at night - very difficult and I am a fairly fit 40 year old. It would be impossible for an elderly or infirm person. Secondly there was no shower in the bathroom only a bath and one night the water was only lukewarm unlike the radiator which was hot, and with sweltering temps outside it made it very uncomfortable as the valve was stuck solid.
Lastly on the room, the blinds didn't keep out the light so the room was becomming light at 4am ish which contributed to disturbed sleep.
On a possitive note the food and friendliness of the staff was excellent.
If I'm being honest, for the price we paid (£280 for 2 nights) we probably wouldnt stay again.

In the centre of a charming village overlooking the village green it is in a stunning location. We didn't actually stay but talking with people who were staying they were delighted with their room.
There is a large restaurant area with table but the bar area has tables also and the same menu is served at both. The large corner table opposite the bar seats at least seven and ensures that you sample the ambience of the local hostelry.
The food is excellent - quite outstanding - and very reasonably priced. The duck breast confit was to die for! The service matched the the standard of the food and was attentive without being intrusive.
To write this review on Tripadvisor is probably the wrong thing to do - it will be difficult to get a table in future!

Me and my girlfriend,deceided,to go out,for a meal,in my classic American Camaro V8 car,and wanted somewhere,within about 50 miles.
We only eat,real food,and not rubbish like,two for £10,so consulted the "The Good food Guide 2011",for recommendations.
after looking,we deceided,to give,"The Devonshire Arms",at Long Sutton,a go.
We rang up,and booked,a table,and asked about their menu,as well.
We had,a slight bit of trouble finding,but found in time,to witness,a great setting,in a square,with the early-evening sun,still out.
Entrance was not well marked,but once inside,we found a classy bar,with a great selection of beer's.
They even stocked,some of my favourites from Belgium-Chimay,which is 9 per cent,and Leffe,too!!!
We checked menu,and ordered,and within a short-time,were asked to go to our table,which was very classy,and clean,too!
Our starter soups arrived,but was a bit tepid,but not cold.
Our main courses were a piece of art,and were tasty,and hot,too!
I ordered two desserts,as one is never,enough,and they were very good.
Waitresses were very good,and helpfull,and the bill came to £75,with two drinks each,and an extra side salad.
This is not perfect value,but food,service,and ambience were near perfect!
Will we be back-Yes!!!
Obviously,we didnot sample their rooms,so can't comment!!!
