My friend and I , being ladies of a certain age, enjoy our hols and love Greece. This was the first time we had booked a hotel. Half Board , two weeks £420. Bumf said and I quote "Small run family hotel , 150 metres from the beach " Ideal , we love the sea and looked forward to good family Greek cooking. So here we go.
Hotel about 20mins from Kos town.
Facilities - Small hotel . Pool area ok but plastic loungers with no mattresses. Had to go and buy lilos..well Terry did.
Restaurant ...I will come back to that.
Bar - open 24hours with Sky Sport on a massive sceen ..for 24 hours.
Rooms basic but ok. However no FRIDGE. the temp was over 100 degrees most days even the whisky was hot by 6 at night. We wasted I dont know how many bottles of water.Several times we had no clean towels. Really not good enough.
The beach - now in their blurb ..and I quote "125 metres from the beach " NO ITS NOT!!!Out the back of the hotel - over a stile , along a field , down a field - and ---yes there is the sea .. but not a beach as the dictioinary describes it . Full of huge rocks and boulders not a grain of sand or even shingle in sight-and needless to say - no loungers or brollies.
The nearest beach you can use is a 15 to 20 minute walk along the main road. Get there early because the loungers go quick.
Food. - Breakfast consisted of ( same every day )corn flakes, uht milk, cold coffee, juice , watered down to an inch of its life ,processed cheese , processed cold meat and tomatoes. IF YOU WANTED BOILED EGGS ETC - YOU HAD TO PAY FOR THEM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The "restaurant " is a "Buffet Style " no its not. Its a canteen where you collect your food on a plastic tray ..and then return your used dishes on said tray. There are no waiters etc.
Dinner - well we enjoy coming back from a hard slog on the beach , getting showered etc then getting dressed for dinner . Not evening dress etc but its nice to feel youve changed. Wasnt worth the effort. The food was very poor. No starters unless you could count the pathetic efforts at a salad..in Greece as well I ask you Some tomatoes and a bit pasta.A pasta dish, sometimes with no sauce , fish , and a meat dish. Ice cream for pudding. All lying under red coloured heat lamps. We did try but it was grim. When we complained to the owner (more about him to come )that the Moussaka was cold he said quote "Thats just your opinion" Yes it was!!!He removed the moussaka 5 mins later. When asked about the standard of food he shrugged his shoulders and said quote " If you dont like it you can leave ,Idont get enough from the tour company to do anything ."
Tour Company .. Med Hotels. didnt have a regular visiting time to this hotel. When contacted it was going to cost us over £400 to move. They never got back to us.
So if you are unfortunate to end up at the Edmark what to do ? Go self catering.
Two lovely tavernas , to the left is Parakevas , with Lovely Romeo. Food excellent and very reasonable and to the right Nikki and Contessas. Again superb Greek food and dancing waiters!Posh night out we found a fab restaurant in Kos Town right beside Hippocretes Tree...cant remember the name but its the only one there .Food excellent and they make a mean Martini and order the Irish Coffee...its alll entertainment.
Beach . Get the bus to Theopolis Beach. Lovely and spotless loos kept by the owners. Spyros Taverna worth a visit here ,thats where the locals eat.
A very disappointing holiday..and expensive because we ate out all thie time. This isnt Greece. This Hotel accomodates many eastern Europeans . lovely people mostly from the Czech Rep. The owner wasnt interested in our opinions. Although the rep from Med Hotels said he was getting £16 per day for us ( dont know if thats each )To lovely Joe and Lisa who were our equally unhappy neighbours , who went for a relatives wedding and were miserable for two weeks Terry and I hope you have got booked up for Egypt next year. Dont give up on Greece, the people and the food are fantastic its just a pity that your stay had to be in this particupat hotel
