“Wonderful vacation”

We were at the Iberstar Paraiso Maya from January 28 to February 4. My husband, our daughter, her husband , their three boys and I had a very good time. There is something for everyone to do. I chose to sit by the pool and the rest of the family took advantage of offsite trips (caves, snorkeling, Tullum). I agree with Trish 88 from Edmonton that some people complain just to complain. The food was very good and there was such a variety. If you go to the Steak restaurant ask to be seated in Francisco's area. You will have service second to none. The staff at the other facilities took care of us like we were family. My only negative (and maybe it isn't so negative) comment is that I wish they had benches along the paths. It would be nice to sit and people watch or read somewhere else than the beach or pool. Would definetely return.

Fantastic vacation. Stayed in a superior junior suite with a King bed. I could not ask for anything more for the money spent. I do have one complaint - This trip was set up because of my wife's special birthday. The travel agent noted it on the resort's itinerary and I saw it on the resort's notes when we checked in. I also mentioned it once at check in. Nothing special was done for her birthday. Don't get me wrong - the vacation was beautiful but I would expect for a resort such as this that a special occasion would be acknowledged in some way - a simple card in the room one day would have been sufficient.
I will write a more detailed decription of the facilities in the future but had to get this out as I was disappointed in the resorts lack of aknowledgement to my wife's special occasion.

“Good resort for a family vacation but don't expect oceanfront and be prepared to walk a lot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We just returned from a four day weekend at the Iberostar Paraiso Maya. Overall, the resort is beautiful, the food is very good, the service is excellent, and there are plenty of activities to keep every family member occupied. We had a superior junior suite at the Paraiso Maya which was huge and quite lovely. What we wish we had known before we arrived is how spread out the resort is (since there are multiple hotels, all connected) and how poor the signage is. At every turn there are roundabouts and multiple paths heading in different directions, with no signs or inadequate signage to direct you. Be prepared to walk very long distances every time you leave your room. If you have young children, be sure to bring the strollers.
Also, be prepared for most rooms to have waterless views, as the resort is laid out so that there is very little beachfront for each hotel. Picture the hotel as a long rectangle, with the short side facing the beach and the long sides lying perpendicular to the beach. Since there are multiple hotels, all laid out the same way, there is little oceanfront relative to the size and scale of the resort. At 10:00 in the morning (at the end of January) there was not a beach chair to be had anywhere. Luckily the pool runs the length of the resort so our chances for a chair were better, but still far from easy. If you're a beach person you may be disappointed, but if you prefer pools, then this may be the place for you, as the pool is lovely: meandering almost the length of the resort, with a wave pool at one end and a lazy river, too. I should mention that it is tricky to get to some of the restaurants, as you have to find the places where it is possible to cross from one side of the pool to the other. Try doing it at night when you just arrived and you get why I say be prepared to do lots of walking!
Although not the main reason to rule a hotel in or out, given the quality of the overall construction,we were surprised at how inadequate the lighting was in the room and in the bathroom. The makeup mirrors were installed backwards, making makeup application difficult in the windowless, dark bathroom. It was a real nuisance.
The Paraiso Maya is the top of the line if you are traveling with children. However we were unable to get reservations at the two specialty restaurants reserved for guests of the Paraiso Maya and ended up at the steak house (good, but not great) and the Mexican restaurant (very good) which are for Paraiso Lindo guests, too. If we go back, we will look into the Paraiso Lindo instead. And we DEFINITELY will go at a non peak time. This resort appears to house too many guests for the size of its beach. But if you need a place where the kids will be entertained, the pool is excellent, the service is good, and the food is better than most all inclusives, this may be a good choice.

Room Tip: Since the resort is very spread out, ask specifically to be located where you want to be, whether it...

“Wonderful vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We have just returned from a wonderful vacation at the Paraiso Maya. I'm not sure what planet some people are living on when they say this resort is dirty and badly maintained:( What a load of absolute rubbish. Still you have to consider the source and when you get a handful of bad reviews among thousands of very good ones you can tell that you can never please certain people. The grounds are beautiful and large, the room was airy and clean, We reported a light was out in the bathroom and it was fixed right away. The facilities and beach were excellent. The food was fine, not perfect, but if I want gourmet food for every meal I'll not be in an all inclusive resort. This is my second trip to the Paraiso Beach complex, having stayed in the Del Mar on my last visit. I would defiinitely recommend the Maya, though the Lindo looks like a good option if you are trying to save a few dollars.

Room Tip: Block 60 is a short walk to the beach.

“Really enjoyed the Maya!”

This was our third trip to this resort, twice to the Lindo and this time to the Maya. We have as well stayed at the Iberostar Rose Hall Suites in Jamaica. We were very happy with our overall experience.
Service and Staff: Very friendly yet professional. Special mention to Osvaldo - the bellman, Miguel - the wine steward for the restaurants and Karina in the Maya Lobby Bar - they made us feel very welcome. The concierges in our building (60) were very helpful and attentive. Diana and Virgina helped us with our dinner reservations as well as other requests such as extra water in the room.
Rooms - quite spacious, very well cleaned each day. One member of our party had the superior junior suite which is about 25% larger and has a pullout couch in it.
Resort Property - simply beautiful - well groomed and maintained. There is a perimeter road/path that is about 2km - perfect for a morning run.
Amenities - the gym had all the necessary equipment - treadmills, ellipticals as well as weights and mats. The Spa, has series of pools and showers that can be used by those staying at the Maya - part of the all inclusive package. Massages etc. are extra. We used the spa daily usually at the end of the day and found it very relaxing. We paid for the internet in the room and despite a couple of connection glitches found it to be ok. I am very accustomed not to have to pay for internet services when we travel and feel that this may be something the resort consider including in the package.
Beach - excellent beach with lots of sun loungers. We really enjoyed beach walking - you can go for 2+ miles to the south. You can walk north as well but there is a little more adventuresome footing in that direction. There is drink service on the beach but not as regular as I recall from our previous trips here.
Restaurants/Bars - The food in the restaurants is good to very good. It is certainly not gourment but it is very evident that a real effort is put forth into the preparation and presentation We enjoyed the French, Japanese and the Steakhouse. Miguel, the wine steward is very knowledgeable about the wine list and made some very good recommendations for our meals. The wine list has the all inclusive on the left side and the extra cost wines on the right side. The Antonio Banderas Wines which are noted on the right side - the A4 And A10 were very good.
We really enjoyed the Maya Lobby Bar ( free wifi) and found we were well attended by the servers.
There are so many activiites available as well as the nightly shows. We took the snorkling excursion off the beach with Dressel Divers and found it to be good value for the $40. It was only 1.5 hours.
This is a great resort to relax and vacation at. We will definitely return again!

Room Tip: Buidling 60 is only a short walk to the beach.
