Travelled with wife and 2 kids, ages 4 and 6, week of Oct 24th through the 31st. It was our second Iberostar experience, the first being at the Quetzal 2 years prior.
As mentioned before, once you are through customs at the Cancun airport, do NOT let one of the salesmen stop you! They look at the tags on your luggage, see "Apple Vacations" on there, and then use a line like "Apple Vacations welcomes you to Mexico", ushering you into one of their kiosk. I had to get a bit rude with the lady after it became apparent that she was not with our travel company. Proceed out doors to the real Apple reps. Other than that, a prior reviewer correctly mentioned to look for another customs line or station to queue into, my wife just walked straight into the customs x-ray booth station, avoiding the huge line just to the right. After she did that, half the people waiting in line jumped in behind us. Travel to the hotel was fine, air conditioned bus, our hotel was one of the 1st few stops. Check in went fine, although it's best to hang back a bit, let the crowd get checked in, go up to the counter when there are no other people waiting. By doing this, I was able to get a "junior" suite at no extra charge. Rooms were nice, lots of stone and tile, and maybe we are used to firmer beds, but our beds were not uncomfortable. Resort is HUGE! I usually called the bell hop and requested a ride to the restaurants. If not, we walked off our meal. Grounds are absolutely beautiful, well kept, lush, jungle like, every stroll is a nature walk. Peacocks, coatis, birds, turtles, flamingos, lizards and wonderful black birds with varied calls. Pools are expansive, and vary from quiet and tranquil, to loud and active. You can find an area to your liking. Beach was awesome, lots of white powdery sand, lots of chairs available underneath grass roofs. Ocean was warm, and during our week, a bit "wavy", but nothing too rough. Not quite calm enough for my 4 year old to be out there alone, but they were fun waves for the kids. Food, ah the real topic. If I ate at the same nice restaurant for one week, I would probably get tired of that restaurant. Eating at the buffet everyday did get old, but at every meal I was able to find an entree that I thought was very good. Ironically, the one night I did not (fish night) was my wife's favorite! Overall, I would rate the food, in consideration of the price we paid for the vacation, as excellent. If we had paid a LOT more for our stay, I would have expected a lot more from the food. We did eat at the Mexican and the Japanese, which were both good, but stuck to the buffets due to the two little ones. The whole thing about this trip, beside the beauty of the surroundings and the hotel, was we never had to think. Never had to think about when we had to eat, when restaurants were opened or closed, how much our kid’s pancakes cost, or where we had to go next. This resort lets parents with young ones relax, not worry about snacks, kids not eating enough of that $20 lunch, not liking the food that was ordered. Regarding the service, I did take down $100 in one dollar bills, and made sure we tipped. Not that you would not receive great service without a tip, but what the heck.
Overall, this resort was lush, beautiful, huge, great warm water in the pools and ocean, and overall, great food. I highly recommend parent’s with kids travel to this resort! It was refreshing to not have a worry in the world while we were down there.
