“Wonderful Vacation”

We went to the del Mar January 21st to the 28th 2012.

Checkin: Upon arrival we were pleasantly greeted by the reception area. They brought us the usual welcome drink that we look forward to when arriving. Check in was fast and efficient.

Our rooms were not ready as we arrived around noon. We ventured to the lobby bar for a couple of cocktails and then to the buffet restaurant for lunch.
We decided to look around and familarize ourselves with the BEAUTIFUL property. About 2 o'clock went to find that 2 of the 3 rooms were ready so we went to one and changed into our suits and off to the pool we went.

Rooms: Typical very clean standard room. Was surprised that they didn't have any dresser drawers though. Used the shelves in the closet. We had 3 rooms 1527,29 and 30. Great location for us. Looking out at the quiet pool and a short walk to the activity pool. I read about a lot of walking, I thought the location we were in was perfect for a central location to everything. Beds were quite comfortable.

Pool: The pools were fantastic. So much room and accomodations for everyone. If you like activity, quiet, even secluded you could find if that is what you are looking for.

Pool Bars: One thing I would have liked to see is an above ground bar by the pool area. If you wanted a drink you either needed to go in the pool or stand at the top of the steps to get one.
They did have wait service for those that were a distance away from the bar so that did help for some. We were very close to the pool bar. The bartenders were great and BUSY.

Food: We thought the food was very good. I made it to the Brazilian restaurant one night. It was very good. Can't comment on the others as I cannot eat at 8:30 pm and we didn't get our reservations in time to get to the earlier ones. The rest of the group really enjoyed them though.
Room service, wasn't all that impressed with the food. Had it a couple of times, pizza, burgers, salad that kind of food. Usually cold when it arrived.

Beach: Very nice soft white sand and crowded. We found an out of the way place to relax and enjoy the sound of ocean, as with the pool, you can find a place quiet or loud. Nice boardwalk as well.

Grounds: By far the nicest that I have seen. I have been to many resorts with beautiful grounds. This one felt very tropical and we really like that. We took our morning walks through the tropical woods and along the beach. Many hard working employees keeping it beautiful.

All in all I can say that we had a very enjoyable trip. I am an avid RIU Palace's fan and only went to this resort because some other family members had already book there. I am glad that we went...it will make it a bit harder to make a decision next year.

Word of warning. The resort has amazing fountains everywhere. When we checked out the reception desks was the only area lit up in the lobby early in the morning. Be very careful as the fountains are not running and look very much like the shiny floor in the darkened lobby. I walked right off and really hurt my knee (and pride) but was quickly told that it happens more often then you think. I did email Olga to suggest to either leave fountains running or put a small fence up.

Room Tip: We were in 1500 building which was cental to the resort. Easy access to everything.

“Perfect vacation”

My boyfriend and I just returned from a 4 night stay at Iberostar booked through Apple Vacations. From beginning to end, it was absolutely amazing. This was our first trip to Riviera Maya so we didn't know how to narrow down our search on resorts but we really lucked out.

The resort is beautiful, filled with swans, flamingos and peacocks simply roaming the grounds. The pools were clean, nice, huge and always plenty of seats available. The beach was very nice and once again, we never had a problem getting a chair no matter what time of day it was. They had beach parties usually around noon where they grilled and there was entertainment everyday. Bars all over the place with the best mojitos and daquiris I have ever had.
The service at Iberostar was top notch. You are treated like Kings and Queens every day with a smile. Food was delicious and really surprised us what a variety we get. They have a few buffets where you can eat all day long, there are beach snack bars and quite a few upscale restaurants. If you stay 4 nights, you get 2 upscale sit down restaurants to go to , choices are Japanese, Seafood, Steakhouse, Mexican, Gourmet, Italian and Brazilian. Food was fresh, clean and everything prepared with purified water. We are very particular about our food so for us to be impressed, it says alot:)
There are a few other Iberostar's in the same area that you can go to and hop from one to another. They all share a huge shopping center filled with stores, a taco place and creperia.
We took the Apple Vacations transportation and it took close to an hour to get to the resort from airport simply because we had to drop off at a few other resorts. The distance from aiport was perfect since we were only there 4 night.
This place was more relaxing, it is more for couples or older adults. I did not see many small kids or obnoxious spring breakers. Worked for us!
Overall, this really is an exceptional place and we can't wait to return!

“Great golf nice resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Stayed for one week and enjoyed the resort very much. Staff was very friendly and tried to accommodate our needs. Food was average most of the time but some selections were very good at times, but the buffet selection though could be of a larger variety. My opinions of buffets are they are buffets some may be better than others but they are still buffets and I really don't rate my experience just on the food. We only went to two of the specialty restaurants the Mexican and Mediterranean in which the food was just a little above average. The room was good with a comfortable bed (been at other Mexican resorts and the beds were always very firm), air was cool and the room was very clean. The grounds around the resort were beautiful and kept up very well. This is a very large property and takes a lot of walking to go from the lobby where the restaurants are to the beach. My biggest complaint was they do have shuttle that makes the rounds but it was never working more than 1/10 of the time. You then you had to rely on the bell boys in golf carts to pick you up and take you from your room to the lobby. This is OK except with a resort of with over a possible 600 guests and only a couple of carts running, either you would have to wait a long time to get a ride or walk to where you needed to go. The drinks were great and the bartenders were very friendly, we never felt cheated in this area. Now to the title. Played four rounds of golf at the most beautiful and well maintained golf course I think I've ever played. The staff was also very good, we had set tee times and a couple of days they had our clubs out and ready to go for the day. Pete Dye did a great job with this course. The course seems very fair with some generous fairways but the toughest, fastest greens I have ever played. Overall my friends and I had a great time golfing and our wives had a great time on the beach.

Room Tip: If your plans are beach related stay in building 12 or 11 as there is a beach pool buffet for break...

“Good quiet stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Stayed here for our anniversary, Sept 20-30th, 2011. Very, very quiet time, less then 50% capacity. Stayed in building 15. This is right in middle of resort, a few minutes walk to pools. Nice rooms, not huge, but ok. Lots of space to unpack, and use dressers. Stayed on second floor, on side of resort, nice view of the new resort going up next-door.
Because of low population, had to use sister resort to eat at. This resort is HUGE, a complex of 5 iberostars. The cool thing is to take the tram around the whole resort the day you come. That way you can see where everything is. This resort also has a it's own shopping area, and you can use your all inclusive to eat for free at the different dining spots in the mall. Use the tram, to go anywhere, but plan on waiting for up to 15 min for a ride! There is a beautiful quiet pool by building 15/16. There is a huge waterfall that all the pools connect with, and it is a wonderful place to just water ride it, floating along with a drink in one hand, and iPod tunes in your ear! At the quiet pool, Lucy the iguana has made her home in the corner unit of loungers. It is a wonderful place to chill, large shade covered loungers, I just need you to know Lucy is nice and cool to see, and she will chill under your chair. There are a few iguanas, and they are more afraid of you. They just move fast and scared 10 years off my life, when I turned over and Lucy and I were eye level...lol.
Snack shack Food was typical resort, with a few upsides. Wonderful service in the eating areas, and I would rate most of the food very good. Very nice presentations, beautifully displayed. Took rolls to feed fish on beach, lol.
Beach was great, bar service was always walking around taking orders. A few days of people selling stuff, but really was not a problem. The bar service in general was better then other places, as staff was walking around very regularly to serve drinks. Tips help in the heat and we never had to ask for drinks, always had one.
Lots of cool paths to get to rooms, lots of native plants, flowers, and if you are lucky, wildlife!
Remember you ca always walk on outside paths in back of resorts. You can cover lots of ground with no one in your way. This is also where the trams travel. If you are nosey like me, this is also where you can peek through fence at new hotel from the back. You can see the new front from walking on beach, but I wanted to see the new parts. It is back from the beach pretty far, so this was close up..lol.
Bring a candle for musty smells, bring a good attitude for things are always different then home and tip housekeepers. We also tip the grounds keepers, sometimes. We use pacos, and some American money. Always use master locks for suitcases, not TSA, when you get to hotel. Too easy for TSA locks, to be picked at hotel. Must use TSA for airline, but never at hotel. Slippery floors, so be careful!
Would stay again, but really too huge resort for our liking. Everything was excellent.

“nice resort, great beach area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We spent one night here, just to check out the resort. The check in service was quick and easy. The bellman took us to our room in a cart, which was nice. He didn't want to leave until I gave him a tip which was a little annoying. The food at the buffet was good, with a nice selection. The reason we came to this area and this resort was the beach and snorkeling. There was an area adjacent to the roped off beach area that was a rocky bottom. It was great to snorkel. When the waves were up and the tide was down, it was a bit of a challenge since the rocks/reef were quite shallow even 30 yards off the shore. We had our own snorkel equipment which allowed us freedom to go whenever wanted. We weren't able to check out the entire resort in the short time we were there. We did walk to the shopping center were you could get ice cream, tacos and other treats. We would recommend this resort
