“Good hotel”

We stayed at the Alkyon for a week this September, and we did enjoy our stay. The room we stayed in was spacious and clean, big an comfortable beds and a beautiful sea view! There are also rooms with a nice view to the pool. All rooms have a small kitchen area with everything you need. The rooms are cleaned and towels changed every other day.

The hotel has beautiful gardens and nice looking pool. We had breakfast with our accommodation, but it was pretty basic: ham, cheese, omelet, salad, some cookies, milk and cereal, tea, coffee, juice. There is also a very nice pool bar where you can eat anytime you want. The staff are very friendly and nice.

The main problem with this hotel (and pretty much with any hotel in Kriopigi) is the road to the beach. There is a 15 minute walk downhill, and it’s pretty steep. And it’s actually even harder walking up. :P The beach it’s small and clean, and the water it’s beautiful. You must buy 2 drinks (3 euro/drink) at one of the Kantinas on the beach, and you will get 2 sun beds and an umbrella for the entire day.

It's not a luxury 4 stars, it's actually a pretty basic hotel. But the nice staff and the green territory and the cleanness make it more than ok!

The resort, Kriopigi, it’s a small one. The village is a five minutes walk up the hill from the Alkion. It’s practically just the main street, with tavernas on every side. There are 10-12 restaurants on the main street, and another couple in the old town. We tried several of them, and we enjoyed them all. We would recommend: Nikos (try the chicken in the oven), Akropolis, Café Bistrot (try the greek fajitas), Sweet Coffee Shop and Casablanca (must try the Casablanca Special :) ). We paid approximately 25 euro/meal for 2 persons. In all the restaurants the staff are very nice and friendly.

Kriopigi is a small, quiet resort, so if you’re looking for a busy night life, this is not the place for you. However, for clubs, you could go to Kalithea, a resort 5 kilometers from Kriopigi.

We also went o a cruise organized by the Greek travel agency Meli tours, and it was very nice.

All in all, both the village Kriopigi and the Alkion hotel - a nice place for a relaxing vacation.

“Beautiful apartments on hillside resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2010

The Alkion is a lovely small apartment complex with beautiful gardens and pool which is kept immaculately clean. There are stunning views of the sea and across to the next peninsula. We preferred the pool to the beach and spend most of our days there. The pool bar is lovely with friendly staff, nice lunches and cocktails.

We stayed in a one bedroom apartment which was basic but spacious and clean. There was a very small kitchen area with fridge, sink, hob and kettle but that was perfect for us as we only has breakfast in the apartment. The bathroom had a good shower above the bath. The air-conditioning was free and effective. Our room was cleaned and towels changed every other day and our bins were emptied daily.

Kriopigi is a hillside resort definitely not for those with walking problems. The beach is at the bottom of the hill accessed by a windy road which is in places steep, the walk back from the beach up to the Alkion took us approximately fifteen minutes and in the heat is not for the faint-hearted. The main village is a further five minutes walk up the hill from the Alkion.

The beach at the bottom of the hill is very narrow but you can walk for miles along it to the next resort. Sadly there is a lot of litter, mainly cigarette buts, left lying on the beach. Although not the prettiest beach we’ve visited it had its charm, backed by pine covered hillside and with views out across the sparkling blue sea to the next peninsula. We found peaceful spot away from the crowds and enjoyed swimming in the warm calm sea.

The main village is situated along a busy main road which does mean most restaurants have views of traffic and sitting outside can be noisy, having said that it didn’t bother us. There are about 15 restaurants/bars in total. We ate out every night sticking to traditional Greek dishes and never had a bad meal. We would definitely recommend the Ackropolis, Nikos and a small taverna called Athena’s. We also liked the restaurant up the hill from the main street for its beautiful setting and atmosphere. In all the restaurants we ate the staff could not have been any more friendly, welcoming or helpful. A starter and main course with house wine was around 20 to 30 Euros and we received a complimentary drink or desert at the end of every meal. Nightlife in Kriopigi is quiet, but relaxing in a taverna with a cocktail or beer suited us.

If you are planning a trip to Kriopigi I would certainly recommend the Alkion apartments, they are a hidden gem and offer excellent value for money.

“Perfect setting for a relaxing break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2010

This resort is exactly what I was expecting from holiday apartments chosen for a relaxing week away from work. The whole place was immaculately clean. The rooms were swept and bins empited everyday and then towels and sheets changed every couple of days, like a previous reviewer we also got the washing up done for us on one occaision (small touches make a big difference).

The atmosphere was perfect. We had a room with balcony over looking the pool and bar area and views of the sea. During the day the pool area was lively but not noisy and never over crowded (very few kids and definately no fighting for sun loungers etc). Owner Yanni, as well as George and Alex at the pool bar were always cheerful and friendly and helped us to speak Greek when in need of a dentist. Pool bar open in the evening with music and sport on TV's but never too loud. Double glazing was great and cut out all noise if required. Rooms were reasonable size, comfy twin beds, small kitchenette and good bathroom. TV small and only got BBC world news but we never wanted to watch it anyway as were always outside. Kitchenette was great for making breakfast and lunch but don't think about cooking any main meals etc. We got fresh bread from the bakery at the top of the hill each morning and it was delicious.

The beach is beautiful and not far away, but the walk back up the hill is not for the faint hearted so wouldn't recommended if you want to nip to the beach and back on a regular basis or struggle with walking. We stayed by the pool most days as offered fantastic views accross the sea.

Kriopigi is a typical holiday resort with a main strip of bars, restaurants and small shops/supermarkets. It is up hill from the hotel but is only a 10 minute walk for anyone of average fitness and makes room for the food and drink you'll consume at the top. We had a daily afternoon drink in the Osteria Bar and were always greeted with a smile and personal service. None of the restaurants were amazing but all provided good fresh food at reasonable price (paid on average €30 for 2 course meal and wine). Don't worry about asking for a wine list, we had a carafe of house wine at every restaurant and it was always good and only a couple of euro's. Best restaurant was in the old town (2 mins walk from main strip). Sorry couldn't work out its name but go past the petrol station and Akropolis restaurant and turn right up a small alley, past another restaurant on your right, at the top of the alley turn left and you walk into a gorgeous little courtyard. Went here 3 times as received great service, good food and excellent value as you get 20% if you say you are staying at the Alkion. Don't expect a menu if you ask for dessert, they just bring you the dessert of the day which was always delicious. Went to the Akropolis for the Greek night and enjoyed the atmosphere but found the service to be poor (had to ask for things two or three times to get them). Went to the Classic bar on Thursday night and they had live music which was fantastic.

Didn't do any of the organised tours as felt the attractions were too far away but used the local bus on a few days to go up and down the coast. Costs €1.40 pp to go to the next village. You do need to be patient though as it was never on time, always 20-40mins late! Didn't find much to do in terms of 'tourist attractions' but went on some lovely walks along beaches and around different towns.

I work as a Reception Manager in a 5 star hotel and often struggle on holiday because my budget doesn't stretch to those standards but the Alkion exceeded them on so many levels. This was my first visit to Greece and first time I had booked a last minute package deal and was a little wary having watched the holiday 'nightmare' tv shows and a regular reader of trip advisor but this hotel deserves its excellent reviews.

Hope you enjoy your holiday there.

“Very relaxing break.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2010

Just returned from a very relaxing two week break at the Alkion. The studios were spacious and clean with a small kitchenette and a balcony. The bathroom was well equipped with hot showers at all times (rare in Greece in our experience). Cleaners were very good, providing us with clean sheets and towels every couple of days and even washed our pots and pans on one occasion when we left them in the sink.
The pool was great although the sun-loungers could do with updating.
May have been due to time of year (early July) but we didn't struggle to get sun-loungers at any point.
Had snacks at the pool bar a few times and even though the menu is limited, the standard was great.
Outside of the hotel, there is a slight hill on the way up to the main strip of Kriopigi.
We did not have a bad meal anywhere but would thoroughly recommend Olivios and The Sweet Coffee Shop (great savoury pancakes).
Every Saturday night, The Acropolis restaurant (on the main strip) has Greek nights which are very boozy and great fun complete with dancing and plate smashing. Not to mention the free brandy and ouzo.
The beach was about ten minutes down a steep hill from the hotel and is a narrow pebble beach with beautiful clear, warm waters.
Overall if you are looking for a good value (£309 for 2 weeks with Thompson ) relaxing holiday, this hotel is a great option for families and couples alike.

“Clean, simple & beautiful views!”

Stayed here for a weeks' last minute get away, what a lovely & amazingly good value hols! Rooms are set back from the pool in blocks max of 3 stories high, all set in well kept gardens and the view from the pool out to sea was gorgeous! Our room had a balcony looking over trees and woodland at the back which was quiet and private.

Rooms were clean & we had frequent fresh towels & sheets. Kitchenettes were OK, but would recommend taking a bottle opener!

It did get a little busier & noisier at the weekend when locals came down, but generally the setting was very peaceful. We thought location was great - the town is a short walk uphill, although getting back from the beach was a bit of a trek up some steep hills. Some nice restaurants in town, highly recommend both Olivio and the Pancake place, great food and views!
