An excellent hotel, with excellent value-for-money as we were lucky enough to land a low season internet offer. Cleanliness was impeccable and staff were really polite and helpful.
The rooms are huge, even if you book the smallest one available it's probably bigger than most hotel rooms you've ever seen, bathrooms included.
The reception is exceptionally cosy, with tastefully decorated nooks and corners with settees, various ornaments as well as a fireplace. There is also a magnificent terrace with a stunning view of the valley.
As for the area, it is simply stunning. The hotel is on a hill overlooking the beautiful Cangas de Onis, in one of the greenest and most rural parts of Asturias. The air is supremely clean and all rooms give out on to an amazing valley, with breathtaking views of the imposing Picos d'Europa mountains. There's also an incredibly clean river/torrent running only yards away from the hotel.
The town is so small that you can get there on foot from the hotel in less than 5 minutes. It is true that at night the hillwalk is completely dark, like pitch black, which may worry the faint of heart a little, but in my view it's part of the charm and any different would spoil the atmosphere.
Staff will also help you with information about the area, which is packed with things to see.
The hotel also features a Michelin-star restaurant, which - though not the cheapest (but it's a 4-star so you knew it anyway) is absolutely stunning, both in terms of food, decor and quality service. Many dishes are typical of the area and were cooked to perfection and nicely presented - modern and rustic at the same time. We had an excellent meal there.
My only complaint is about the breakfast. This happened both mornings we were there, but there was JUST one overworked waiter pacing up and down trying to make coffee and tea, serve everyone and clear the tables as new guests were coming in. It really makes you feel sorry for him. He was trying his best but simply they need more staff as the poor chap couldn't cope and waiting time started getting a bit ridiculous and inapproriate for a 4-star hotel.
But that was the one and only glitch.
Other than that, a really enjoyable stay and we'd love to be back soon.
