After 2 nights at La Cepada, I wholly agree with the negative reviews that this hotel is substandard and grossly overpriced. The website makes it look like a true 4-star hotel and I was fooled by that and by the very positive reviews here at tripadvisor. If it were a 3-star hotel and significantly cheaper, it would be fine --- it does have spectacular views, Cangas is in a lovely town and the outdoor terrace is wonderful. The staff were kind and tried to be helpful. The problem is the price-to-quality ratio. Having lived in Spain for nearly a decade, I have stayed in plenty of great 4-star places across the country for a similar price, and have stayed in nicer 3-star ones for much less. My complaints are the same as those of other reviewers (check out the Spanish-language negative reviews if you can):
- despite it being a busy end-of-summer weekend when the hotel was full, it was sometimes impossible to find someone at reception to help you. the lobby felt vacant and deserted.
- it was extremely hot and there was no air conditioning. Since the rooms have an entire wall of glass (with a wonderful view), the sun bakes the room all day. The curtains are insufficient to keep out light/heat. It was hotter in our room than in my non-AC home in Madrid (which averages 90-95degF in summer). I realize this was unusual for the region, but a 4-star hotel can't have at least a fan?
- the bath/shower was a bit dirty, with lots of mold on the shower screen. hot water came and went during the shower. the thing on the tap that switches between bath and shower was broken.
- the pillows are hard foam, like rocks, though the bed was comfortable
- perhaps most important: the service at breakfast was unbelievably slow. it seems the hotel owners are too cheap to hire more than one waiter, so the person working -- who was very kind and was clearly working hard -- is running from table to table at a fully booked hotel. since it is not a buffet, one cannot doing anything but sit and wait until various dishes are brought. it should not take 20 minutes to get a coffee served to you at a 4-star hotel. it would be far better if it were a buffet as most 4-stars are. the quantity and quality of food was fine.
