The last stop in our car driving trip was this lovely place. The paradors had done us proud and this one didn't dissappoint. The modern room are large, have comfortable beds and plenty of space. The staff were all superb and the dining was excellent and plentiful. This is, after all, a region of great gastronomy and we enjoyed it all.
The only downside was that there was little outside of the hotel to entice one to return. By that I mean that if one wanted to wander around the environs and check out the local village or town, you'd have a fair old trek before you got anywhere worthwhile. As a stop over place, however, it is brilliant! I particularly loved the fact that they had spent much money and time preserving the roman ruins that are in the middle of the building and presented the areas so that guests can wander through the area. They had built a bridge over at ground floor level and lit the archaeological dig to enable all to view it at leisure. There are explanations on the wall of what is there.
All in all an highly recommended stopover. Try out this 17th Century former monastery!
