“Beautiful Hotel Overall - Customer Service Indifferent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2010

My spouse and I stayed here in the summer, and we were very happy with our choice!

The rooms are absolutely lovely, with great little verandas, nice views, and excellent bathrooms. Very nicely decorated, too, and spotlessly clean (as is the rest of the property). Free WiFi also provided. Great sunsets - very romantic! Nothing nicer than returning in the early evening, sitting on our veranda with some beer and wine and local nibblies, and watching the sunset! :)

The breakfast was EXCELLENT - everything was tasty and fresh. The coffee and bread were also very good, and we loved the fruit juices and yogurt!

We didn't find the famous hill to be that big of a deal. We rented a scooter, so who cares? Scooters are a great option, as they are cheap to rent and lots of fun.

The only slight improvement that the hotel could use is in the area of customer service. I didn't find the hotel staff to be rude - just indifferent and cool. The front desk could have used a little more warmth...that's about the only thing.

All in all, really enjoyed this hotel and thought it was lovely!

“A Gem of a Hotel - Perfect start to our trip”

We stayed at that Pelican at the start of our 4 Island and Athens tour of Greece. I have been to Mykonos on 5 previous occasions over the last 20 years as single man and this was my first trip there after a 7 year break and I was returning with my partner to show him an island which has a special place in my life. I had not stayed at this hotel before but had stayed at 2 other hotels in the past in the same location so I knew what to expect of the hill!!! That aside what the Pelican offers is worth all the effort! From arrival to departure we could not fault the friendliness of the staff and the level of service we received, the room was simple but spotless and the bathroom was far more than I would have expected for a similar hotel of its class. The breakfast was excellent and outshone that of hotels we have stayed in the past. We had a room on the 2nd Floor (Room 12) with large if not very private balcony which was the highlight the view was stunning which I would have paid double for than we actually did. The Pelican provides a peaceful haven with modern design and a home away from home, made more so by the positive attitude and welcome offered to us by the staff. Will not be leaving it another 7 years before we return to Mykonos and the Pelican will be our first choice of accomodation.

“Great hotel but I didn't get a seaview room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2010

This is a wonderful hotel—beautiful room, nice bathroom with strong shower, quiet, lovely to sit out on the patio and look at the sea. Nice breakfasts with crusty bread and the best canned peaches I’ve ever had.

Friendly and helpful staff. Bit of a hike to town and a worse one uphill coming back (but not undo-able even for middle-aged folks like us). Easy to get lost coming back unless you take the main streets. Make sure you try the Gelarte gelato place in Mykonos Town.

My only real complaint is that I booked and paid for a seaview room but did not get one. My view was of the breakfast room. Only when I went out on the patio and rotated 90 degrees clockwise did I get the seaview. (Seaview room but not really: #32)

“Lets get real about the hill.......”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2010

I did a TON of research before booking our trip through Greece. I was a bit scared about this hill that the Pelican hotel sits on, but my husband and I are young and in good shape. Both of us 30 and we run 3-5 miles a day. This hill is a killer. You can never wear heels out at night and by the time you get to the top you are beat. I thought a lot about my parents, they would never make it up and and down 3 times a day.
I also read that the hotel provides a shuttle from airport/port; we never saw that shuttle or they never offered it when we talked about how to get to and from the airport. We took a cab from the airport for 10 euros and walked to the ferry port when we were leaving. (took about 20mins). It seems as they though staff is really nice to some people but not so nice to others.
We were at the hotel for 4 nights. It was clean and comfortable. The rooms were large and had AC. The Bathroom was big and towels were comfy. The view was great. We watched the sunset from our balcony 3/4 nights. Breakfast was pretty good. The girl who works there during breakfast is by far the nicest of them all. They do have free wifi there which is nice. We tried to call out to the US at night using our phone card and apparently they block the phone so you can't call out. The guy who works the desk at night told us the phone was broken, (he was super rude by the way) The girl in the AM told us he just has to push a button and it would have allowed us to call our families in the US. Hmmmm... Hopefully someone taught this guy that.
Its hot in mykonos, especially after the walk up the hill and they have no pool. You can go to the Elysium hotel bar across the street and use their pool. BUT you have to buy a drink and they are 10 euros each. So thats 20 euros for us and if we went every day thats at least 80 euros. Hmmm.... Oh and Elysium is a gay hotel/bar. We are from San Francisco so it's all good with us, but just so you know. I was the only girl there.
The hotel is not a bad walk to town, it's pretty close to everything. We rented a quad and drove around the island and explored the beaches. The bus station is close as well and will take you to almost any beach. Mykonos is a lot of fun. Would I stay here again??? Maybe. But I would try and and find a place that had a pool and wasn't such an buzz kill of a walk home at night for a similar price.

“Nice hotel but guests are...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2010

Very nice hotel but only few guests are straight. So that's a choice. The hotel is new. Staff is always smiling and helpful. Breakfast ends at 11:00 so you don't miss it. Hotel is close to the action of Mykonos town but it's on a steep hill. It is impossible for your girlfriend to climb up or down that hill with high heels. We got a very good rate compared to similar hotels. Overall, very nice hotel.
