After 15 years, my partner and I were going back to Mykonos.
We have wonderful memories of our first trip - when we were young and energetic! - so we wanted to have a good experience second time around.
We spent sometime looking through the list of hotels and, totally confused, eventually, decided to engage a local travel agent (the delightful Rita at Wind Mills Travel) to help us out. We short-listed our preferred hotels and she pick up the Elysium straight (straight?) away. We argued that some of the reviews were very negative; she asked us to trust her. We did and are very happy for it.
We had a great time!
The location, as most people have already mentioned, is, quite simply, one of the best in Mykonos. Incredible vistas of the old town and the best sunset on the island.
The reception is neat and well designed and Nikko, at the desk, is great. Polite, helpful, efficient and always with a smile.
The room - we had one of the superior - was relatively small and looked a bit 'tired'. The fantastic view from our balcony partially made up for it. The bathroom also would benefit from a refurbishing.
Bar e restaurant services were excellent. The menu is rather limited but there's something for almost everyone and the quality of the dishes - presentation, freshness and taste - is quite exceptional for a hotel of that size.
The cocktails are OK and kind of overpriced however the staff that serves them is wonderful, not only efficient, friendly and polite, but also rather good to look at.
The sunset parties are definitely a must! Everyone seems to be there, including a few kids!, and everybody seems to have a good time. It certainly kick-starts the evening.
No, I can't say that it's very good value for money, as it's quite expensive, but it was well worth it.
We're very glad we believed Rita rather than the (very) negative reviews.
We'll be back and it won't take another 15 years!
