My boyfriend and I arrived at the Madalena Hotel towards the beginning of an extended trip through Greece and Turkey. Since we're traveling for a bit longer than usual, we were looking for accommodations that offer a balance of location, service and comfort. Based on previous reviews, we settled on the Madalena Hotel, located just outside of the immediate center of Mykonos town. Because the town is pedestrian-only, being outside of town is better since getting to the beaches (on a scooter, anyway) would be a pain.
We stayed there for 4 nights and were extremely happy with the accommodations and even happier still with the service and staff, all of which were outstanding. The hotel proprietor, Madalena (the shared name is serendipitous) is amazing and offers service levels that I have come to expect from larger, resort--sized properties. "Yes, no problem" was her stock reply to every request or question, which made the hotel among the most pleasant places we have ever visited.
The hotel is situated on somewhat of a steep cliff, with unobstructed views of the harbor and close enough to town to walk in a few minutes and far enough to be removed from the hordes.
The room was smallish though because it offered plenty of closet and bureau storage, we were able to unpack and live very comfortably for our 4 nights. The bed was very comfortable and included a high quality comforter (with great air conditioning) and feather pillows. The room also included a refrigerator and free wireless Internet. The room also flat panel TV.
The room opened up to a terrace with tables and chairs and a perfect view of the harbor and evening sunsets.
Breakfast was included and an very nice, above average, fair of fruit, breads, meats, cheeses crepes, and eggs served any style. Coffee was served on request (my ONLY knock against the place was that I couldn't help myself to coffee and instead, had to ask for each cup).
We asked Madalena for help in negotiating scooter rentals, shopping, beaches, eateries, etc., and in rare form, she offered utterly unbiased suggestions, not colored by kick backs or conflicts of interest (which is a pet peeve of ours). She even drew a map when commercial maps weren't clear enough. For restaurants, she offered suggestions that the "tourists love" (that she did not) and others that were "authentically Greek." For my partner, who doesn't sleep well with feather pillows, she secured foam pillows from another property.
For dirty laundry, they arranged - on a Sunday - to have a local service pick up our bag and returned our clothes folded that same day (at standard rates).
While this isn't a complete itemization of why we liked this hotel so much, it does offer a perspective of our time there and the premium service they provide.
As someone who has offered many critical reviews of several properties, I offer only positive reviews of this gracious and warm hotel.
