“Enjoyable stay at Guayarmina Princess”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We booked the Guayarmina Princess for a late minute winter getaway. Overall we were very satisfied.
Emailed the hotel in advance asking for a higher room and got one. Nice room with balcony and sea view on 2nd floor of main building. We were a little too near the noisy air conditioning machinery of the hotel next door (which is rather close) and initially requested a change. The reception staff were happy to arrange this in a couple of days but in the end we decided to stay where we were as the noise wasn't too intrusive.
I disagree completely with previous comments about the reception staff. Found them very pleasant, helpful and professional. This is a large, busy hotel but we never had to wait long for attention.
The public areas of the hotel are lovely, very clean and well maintained. Pool area is small for the size of the hotel but we never had any trouble getting sun loungers (and we don't save loungers - can't stand the "towels on loungers brigade"). I agree the loungers are close together. I much prefer a hotel with gardens where you can find a quiet spot.
As others have commented the food was good but perhaps a little monotonous. Restaurant staff were great, very hard working and helpful. The restaurant was a bit manic (too small for size the hotel?). The first night was confusing with guests buzzing everywhere around the buffet but once we got to know where we were going it was fine (though not exactly relaxing!). I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone to eat at 6.30pm. We saw long queues at that time. I can't understand why people would choose to do that?? Why not enjoy the Happy Hour, have a cocktail (or two!) and go later? We used to go down just before 8 and never had to wait for a table.
Evening entertainment is variable, drinks expensive (except Happy Hour!) - but local bars are pretty cheap.
The position of the hotel is excellent - right on the promenade. Pleasant walks in both directions. Wasn't very keen on the area. It was my first time in Tenerife and don't enjoy English bars, karaoke etc. But some parts of the resort are very nice and it was fine for a winter break.
Things we didn't like about the hotel..... Having to pay through the nose for the fridge and safe. That's very poor!! Prohibition on electrical devices in the bedrooms except shavers and hairdryers. We ignored that - never holiday without our trusty travel kettle as we can't exist without a decent cup of tea!!
Overall, a good value holiday as we paid a reduced price. Wouldn't want to pay much more for it though. We regularly holiday in the Canaries in January and we have stayed at better places.

“Guayarmina Princess-Platinum Joke !”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Now dont get me wrong, the building, pool areas, bars, restaurant, sitting areas etc etc are all super and well worth their 4 stars.
But,
Talk about the reception, quality of public service, helpfulness from the reps and the rooms, then its a different story.Iv never been to a hotel before and een a queue amile long everyday wanting to complain or request move.Dont get me wrong, the hotel is beautiful, but the attention to customer relations and public satisfaction is diabolical! The reception staff are rude, notinterested and definately not helpful at all(if you're British) and the ame goes for the reps, totally not interested and completely slack if you have a problem. How this establishment can be rated as a Thomson Platinum is beyond me ! Like so many others have quoted recently, the rooms realy are average. Our first room reminded me of a dark and dingey box with a window(no balcony or view),reminiscent of a cell realy!Having paid over £2000 for a fantastic holiday, this is the last thing you expect. After 4hrs sat in reception requesting a move,we finally got one, adequate to say hte least ,but better than our previous box!No help from the reps I might add.On the whole, the rooms are dark, cold and no real highlight to your holiday experience. Why do you have to pay non returnable deposits for such things as air con, fridge, safe or heatig in a 'Platinum Hotel'
Overall, the building is beautifil, but dont be deceived by looks, underneath, theres a nasty stench of an unhelpfull attitude, crap rooms and poor service.
Platinum,no way !

Room Tip: Not sure there are any due to the length of queue at reception everyday.

“could do better!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We have stayed at many 4 and 5 star hotels in the Adeja / Fanabe area and we cosider this one is not value for money. The bed linen and towels were worn out and needed replacing ,the toiletries provided were poor quality and similar to that found in budget travel Inns in the UK.
We made 3 requests on booking ie: double bed, room overlooking pool or sea, quiet room, none of these requests were granted. We were allocated a north facing room with an enclosed balcony with glass screen and opening casement , this was to keep out some of the noise from the carpark that it overlooked, no sunshine at any time of the day which made the surfaces including the floor cold and room gloomy. We requested a change of room and were told the hotel was full and no change was available for first 4 nights of our stay which seemed strange as guests were arriving and departing every day. We found the reception staff mainly unhelpful and offhand.

On the plus side the food was good, with pleasant and helpful restaurant staff. The pool area very nice with plenty of comfortable sun beds. The evening entertainment was enjoyable most evenings.

We felt the hotel were making extra charges for everthing except the basics eg a charge to change wet pool towels for fresh ones, a daily charge to unlock the mini bar without contents as well as the usual charge for contents consumed. Hence the conclusion of "could do better" .

Room Tip: arrive early in the day

“Good but not ideal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

The hotel is situated in a good location. Very close to beach, shops, bars. This is a significant advantage. The hotel is getting on in years but the rooms are very spacious and clean. Restaurant rather smoothly. Maybe a little too monotonous food. The hotel very crowded. Number of chairs definitely small compared to the number of tourists. Each day the fight for the pool's place. A heated swimming pool but too small for such a large hotel. Depth of pools rather for children. If someone likes to swim is not recommend this hotel. This hotel deserves 3 stars. 4 stars is rather too much. Polish offer of this hotel generally very expensive in comparison to the offered quality.
