“Very Good”

Holiday in January 2012.Never been before but will return. We think better than the 3*,rating.Went all inclusive and of course the food gets monotonous but was plentiful and any way we like salads and I LOVE THE BREAKFASTS..
yes for food, entertainment etc they cater for the majority..the Germans..and yes you have to be up early to get the towels on the loungers...I did when i wanted to and I found them okay but glad to meet a Brit when i could.
Surrounding area absolutely beautiful with lovely shopping for the ladies and open bars for me,bit of a hike but you just take your time or a taxi.
Read some of the other reviews which I think are a little harsh.Go with an open mind knowing the weather going to be good and you will enjoy.

Room Tip: don't go ground level

“Just what we needed!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We stayed first week of February all-inclusive and were very happy with the service, food and drinks. Staff were all friendly, especially a couple of the bar staff, and very helpful.

At 50 and 47, we were probably amongst the youngest 20% of guests, so the atmosphere was peaceful and relaxed. We got good sunbeds even at 10.00 am but I guess that this would be difficult at peak times.

The only criticisms are that the pool was freezing cold and there was no inside bar. Even so a rugby shirt was warm enough in the outside bar in the evenings.

We are already planning a return trip same time next year, as are 3 other British couples who were there. It was our first ever trip to Tenerife and, God willing, it will be the first of many!

Room Tip: Request a room in H block as this is by the pool, bar and restaurant

“Lovely Hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

We stayed at this hotel all inclusive for New Year. We had a good deal which we booked through First Choice. Despite reading previous mixed reviews, we would definitely return to this hotel again although not on an all inclusive basis, simply because it is so cheap to eat and drink in the bars & restaurants in the area.

We found this hotel to be really clean, the staff were lovely, but as someone else mentioned, we also believe in treating people as you wish to be treated yourself. Some guests showed no respect for the hard working staff. There were some that were more helpfull than others and we did find that the blonde receptionist who appeared to be german slightly rude and not as helpfull as the others. The childrens entertainer was great with the young kids. Definitely a credit to the hotel. We travelled with a 12 year old who was a bit old for the mini disco etc, but the daytime activities she joined in on, darts competition etc.

The food we found to be of high quality, better than other 3 star hotels we have previously stayed at. There was always something for everyone and our 12 year old is a VERY fussy eater! We found lunch & evening meal excellent but we struggled with breakfast more so. As we used to eat around the half nine mark most of the fresh fruit had gone, but they were always making fesh pancakes and tortillas. As with all inclusives it did get monotanous so we eat out twice to break the week up. The Golden Palace Chineese Restaurant (think that was the name, its opposite the Colonial Pub in the Fanabe Centre) was really nice and good value, staff there were also lovely. The Ganges Indian restaurant on the promenade was superb, as with the chinese restaurant, good value and lovely staff.

The only bad points I have about the hotel is 1) that there is nothing mentioned anywhere about them only having an outside bar. As it was January the temperature dropped a lot in the evenings and I found no enjoyment sitting in the cold!! It was fine if you could get a table "undercover" so to speak but the further out the tables, the colder it got!! I actually spent new years eve with a blanket wrapped around me!! Even a few patio heaters in the cooler months would be an improvement!

2) The entertainment in the evening was quite poor and not to our taste; a magic show which was very corney!! Parrot show, etc, Because of the entertainment and cold outside bar we went out a few nights and most bars on the front have euro a pint hours special offers on sangria etc.

I will say that the quality of the drinks at the El Duque was very good. Amstel Lager, good wine, good shorts and variety of cocktails.

3) I think the management need to do something about the reserving of sunbeds with towels. We could never get a bed in the heated pool area and were told by one other guest that they were up at half six one morning and all the beds had towels on them.
Some groups were reserving loads of beds yet some days noone even appeared on them.
It was very frustrating as half the hotel is in the shade. One particularly hot day day we went to the beach as could not get a bed, which defeates the object of going all inclusive!

All in all we had an excellent holiday, lovely hotel, lovely food, lovely staff, lovely weather, lovely location..couldn't have asked for more!

“we loved it”

Unlike other reviewers we found the el duque aparthotel to be very clean, our towels were changed daily and the beds twice a week.
The staff on reception, in the restaurant and the bar area were really friendly and helpful with a good sense of humour. We never had to clear away our plates as this was done very quickly and the tables re set for the next diners. Admitedly the food was pretty basic but with plenty of variety so could always find something to satisfy and as there are lots of eating places in the resort it is very reasonable to eat out once in a while even if you are all inclusive, as we were.
Our apartment was very spacious and was well worth paying the extra for the large terraced balcony with pool view and sun loungers.
The evening entertainment was great for people with young children who did not want to wander out at night but for oldies without children there was plenty going on down near the beech, although it was a good ten minutes down a steep hill so not really suitable for anyone with mobility problems. Once down by the beech there were plenty of shops, bars and resteraunts with many of the bars having entertainment until 2 am. Always lots of taxis available but they did seem to make up the charges as they went along as we never paid the same price twice. But when the old legs get a bit tired who cares about a couple of euros.
Would definately go back next year as we thought it was very good value for money, especially as we were there for New Year as well, and all that lovely sunshine in the middle of winter.

Room Tip: Block G 001 to 006 have large balconies with sun loungers and sun all day.

“An Honest Review”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

I would like to start by saying why would anyone write a review in January for a holiday they had in July the previous year.

I have just returned (yesterday) from a 10 day stay at the El Duque Aparthotel. I have stayed at different hotels in the area on 6 occasions in the past & would certainly consider returning here.

The accommodation is what you would expect at a 3* hotel, the rooms were cleaned daily & towels & sheets changed every 3 days as explained in the information pack. The apartments are well equipped but I would recommend taking a travel kettle. There is a supermarket close by if staying self catering.

As with all "all inclusive" holidays, the food does become monotonous but when catering for 100's of people they cannot provide anything that is not simple food. All I can say is that there was plenty of it. Breakfasts & lunch was adequate but sometimes the evening meal was disappointing.

We found the staff to be friendly & courteous but then I've always believed in treating people the way you would hope to be treated. This is a small complex & sometimes they could be slow as there weren't that many of them.

I have to say a special mention to Elija, he was a one man band providing the daytime & evening activities & entertainment & also running the kids club & mini disco. This guy is a credit to the Hotel. Many Many Thanks, my four year old loved him.

The area has plenty of shops & bars close by & some fab restaurants especially the Ganges Tandoori on the front & the Restaurant Hawai (great steaks) in the Fanabe Commercial Centre. There is a hill down to the front which could be difficult for the elderly or infirm but some of the previous reviews are slightly exaggerated.

All in all, I would stay at this complex again albeit not all inclusive.

Room Tip: We had a fab room overlooking the pool in H block
