When on holiday, a major plus for us is for there to be a wonderful sea view.. The Pil-lari delivers this, absolutely front line. Having read earlier reviews about how, a few years ago, this was not a nice place to stay, we were a little apprehensive. However, now, spotless apartments, well equipped with all that you need, except a kettle [ we took our own] and we were extremely satisfied - nothing to complain about.
We only stayed for six nights from Monday 17th October and we were so fortunate, excellent weather, beach packed every day except for the Thuraday when it was windy and overcast but not cold and no rain at all for our stay.
You get the 21 bus from the Airport and this stops in front of the Pil-lari reception which is at the "back" of the hotel, the front, being the opposite side, overlooking the beach and promenade. Going out of the Pil-lari on the reception side [main road and bus stops ] you turn left and cross over the road to a parade of shops and bars. At the end of this row, on the bend, so not visible until you get to it, is the Eroski Supermarket, excellent range of goods including freshly baked baguettes - best place to stock up - and only five minutes away. Going out of this same entrance, you can get the No 15 or No 25 bus to Arenal or cross over the road and get the No. 15 to Palma via C'an Patilla or the No 25 for direct service to Palma. So convenient. Going out the beach entrance, there is also a stop for the orange tourist "train" which runs between Arenal and C'an Pastilla. This was 4 Euros for a return trip, but unlike the Hop On / Hop Off Red Tourist bus in Palma, it is not for all day use, just the one return trip. We went on this on the cloudy Thursday when we went to the Street Market in Arenal.
The Pil-lari really suited us, we are retired and were not seeking late nights and razzamatzz, nor in-house entertainment though on one evening there was a singer but we missed this. For beach lovers, you just cross over the road and the Pil-lari has two swimming pools as well. The dining options in the area were fairly limited but with the buses running so frequently, you could easliy get to the other main areas.
Our best meal was on the day we took the No 25 into Palma and then got the No.211, direct bus to Puerto de Soller. We dined at the Pizzeria del Porto, absolutely first class. Try the Pork escalopes in a mushroom and cream sauce, quite delicious. The owners are to be congratulated on the quality of their food.
We would love to return to the Pil-lari, super place to stay.
If I can be of any help please email me, I will be very happy to answer any queries.
Room Tip: We chose a superior room which was on the top floor and it was absolutely first class.
