Apartments were really clean and big, with some english channels (even a movie channel) _ we had room136 and this was by far the best room for views. we had a great pool and sea view with the sun on our balcony all day.
Staff were polite and helpful.
beach nearby was great, soft sand and free toilets. 2xsunbeds 10euros.

food in puerto del carmen was great value, we ate at mulligans irish bar and for a 3course meal cost 12euros, we also ate at an all you can eat buffet called peking duck (next door to hotel) 8euros each and down the road another buffet called dragon 6.95euros each. fab food! we also walked all the way to the other end by the old town and biosfera and there was a fantastic resturant near the port (i cant remember name of it but a two course meal was 8.50euros and again excellent food.

I had a 1/2 litre of sangria which was around 6euros in most places. and beer was around 1.50euros.

cocktails were pretty cheap too, we went to route 66 and paid 5euros a cocktail,
good range of supermarkets near by, spar was probably the best.

went to teguise market who we booked with 'lastmin' company opposite beach only 4euros each return with a good english speaking tour guide,

lanzarote was a lovely island and i will defiantly return, especially to la penita apartments.

weather from 16th-30th jan was ok, very mixed days, one day was glorious next day it rained (still got a good tan tho)

The apartments did what i expected, I went on response to reviews off Tripadvisor they had excellent reviews, not sure what everybody got excited about but there was nothing negative to report other than the noise from the pool plant room, this had been mentioned a number of times so as a pool engineer i investigated, the pumps are a Spanish manufacturer Astral and are quite noisy, they are oversized for the pipe work that serves them and the plant could be updated to work better, reduce noise and electrical consumption, a full report would be made available to the La Penita if they intended to act on it.
Location is good easy walk to the Old Harbour along the strip, had dinner at the Mazdeleva restaurant, very good, also local to the apartments a restaurant on the beach front called Terraza Playa has great coffee and good eating with a lovely vista, good beach to use at this area as well.
I would use the apartments again.
Main annoying aspect of Puerto del Carmen was the bar touts trying to get you into their bars.

We spent 2 weeks from 22nd dec - 6th Jan. this is our 3rd time at La Penita. Again we asked for the same room we have had 2 previous visits and got it again. Again on arrival to our room we had a complimentary bottle of wine for being a repeat customer which is a great touch.
First time we have been to lanzarote over christmas and new year and I would highly recommend it to anyone. such a great atmosphere and we had stunning weather the whole 2 weeks. Christmas dinner was pre booked at friends bar and was superb day. Back at the hotel, well, again we found the La Penita one of the best places we have ever stayed. there is just something about it. so relaxed and friendly, staff are brilliant and so central to everything on the main strip. We met some lovely people during our 2 weeks. With regards a previous review about corridor / room noise. Its no worse than any other hotel, in any other resort, in any other holiday destination. yes you hear people coming home, or moving about their room but its not the peoples fault, nor hotels for that matter. It is never that bad that it is a problem to sleep, you cant expect everyone to be on a holiday to recharge the batteries, and its deffinatley not a hotel where you hear party goers coming back to their rooms to continue to party. If you have a problem with noisy neighbours you can alert the hotel. Our only problem along with other internet users was that the wifi was broke in the rooms, and was virtually at a stand still in the poolbar. the hotel was trying to get it fixed but was still broke when we left. By no means a big deal though. We love la penita and have already re booked and cant wait to return.

No complaints, everything very very good. If you had to be picky €10 per hour for the tennis courts is a bit much but they are in fantastic condition (includes rackets and balls).
