“A great hidden gem”

I lost my passport and had to stay behind after my friends left in order to get a temporary one to get home. The receptionist at the Morromar could not have been nicer or kinder to me. I was looking for an affordable, clean and safe place to stay and that is exactly what I got. The appartment was spotless and the bed was very comfortable. Not like the ones in the photos but I find they never are like those anyway. There was a 2 ring cooker, plenty crockery and cutlery, a kettle and toaster. I had a great balcony with a view over the sea. I was also over the restaurant/entertainment centre and although not interested in the entertainment, it was varied, seemed good quality and finished at 11pm. The seafront is a short walk away down a wide, well-paved path and the bus to Puerto del Carmen and/or Playa Blanca is a short walk away. I will agree that the Morromar is in need of a bit of a spruce up but I was more than satisfied for what I paid.

“Dont believe the bad reviews”

I am just back from a week stay at the Morromar apartments. i stayed with my girlfriend and another couple. we booked this holiday for my 30th birthday and hadnt read any reviews before we did. after reading some of the reviews we were panicking and thought we had made a mistake. we actually were not looking forward to going and was expecting the worse.

we were so relieved when we got there and experienced it for ourselves. every member of staff was friendly and extremely helpfull, the rooms were spacious and very clean, thewhole complex in general was immaculate, didnt see one piece of rubbish or mess anywhere the whole time. some places could maybe do with a lick of paint but nothing to get upset about. our biggest worry was what the food was going to be like as we were all inclusive, after reading the reviews we were not expecting much. the food in my opinion was decent, there was always plenty of selection, fresh sald, diferent types of meat, chicken, pasta, rice and other things that changed each day. some food we found was a bit strange but the hotel caters for different nationalities, there is always chips available also, you could find something that you liked each night. the only thing i found was that most things were cooked in garlic which did get a little sicking after a few days. the drinks that were available all inclusive were great, the beer isnt watered down and is quite nice, cocktails, vodka, whiskey, cava and a selection of schnapps, water, soft drinks and tea/coffee. we had went for a good drinking session so were not disappointed with the selection of alcohol.

this is a 3 star hotel, you get what you pay for, if your a fussy person regarding food then maybe not for you, but if your open minded and just want a nice relaxing holiday in a clean friendly environment then this hotel will suite you fine.

i would return to this hotel but i prefer to stay closer to puerto del crmen, its only a short distance away but still 4 euro in a taxi.

oh yeah and the pools are proper freezing, i tried a few times but couldnt handle the coldness, maybe just because of the time of year but extremely cold.

“not the cleanest”

apartment pictures seemed nice and the apartments in the pictures did exist but it was not the apartment you got. the apartment floor was mopped everyday but over an entire week the sheets were not changed an a earring was in the bed before i had even slept in it. the apartments where a 30min 40min walk from the main attractions. apartments are in MATGORDA.
also constant noise of planes taking off and landing.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a sofa in the living room so you are not getting an all in one small room

“Enjoyable holiday”

Just had the perfect relaxing holiday, got more than we expected for what we paid. Ideal location, weather fantastic, staff always helpful, food basic but good, drinks spot on. Can't understand why some people always feel it necessary to moan about something!

“Disappointing...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Me and my partner (early 20's) have recently returned from a weeks stay at Sol Morrormar and whilst I wanted to ignore the poor reviews and focus on the best ones we were unable to overlook the bad points during our stay.

Good points:

- Maid service was very prompt and our beds were made and towels replaced every other day.
- We liked that it was only a short walk to the beach and the airport noise isn't very bad at all. In fact we enjoyed strolls down to the airport to sit on the beach and watch the planes come in above our heads (so close you almost feel like you can touch them).

Bad points:

- Our room appeared to be right next to the sewage system in the hotel so whilst we were lucky to have a sun trap balcony we didn't like to spend too much time out there as it smelt awful.

- After a very long trip in the early hours we wanted nothing more than a soak in the bath. The bathroom was clean however after leaving the water running for a while when I went to turn it off the water was bright yellow, almost orange. I called reception and was told that someone would be sent over to help. We nodded off and woke up an hour and a half later and still nobody had came to fix the problem. When I called reception again (around 11pm) I was told that they couldn't send anyone, just as I was about to contest this the guy on reception said he would send a plumber. Sure enough around 15 mins later a plumber arrives and 5 mins later says he has fixed the issue. By then we were shattered and didn't have the energy so went to sleep. The next morning I went to have a bath and whilst the water wasn't hugely dark it was still clearly yellow. This went unresolved and we ended up buying a bottle of water to brush our teeth with each day.

- The apartment is very basic with no heaters and during the evening it gets very cold. You'd think this would be okay once you get into bed but instead of comfy covers you get two bedsheets which are very thin. There is no double bed option so myself and my partner being so cold shared a single bed. One night I went to sleep in a hoody I was that cold.
- The beds are another issue and I've come home with a sore back as they are solid! When it's chilly it doesn't help that you're sleeping in a hard bed.

- The TV. One day of our stay it was raining so we decided to sit in and watch TV. Unless you want to watch Americas business & finance channel or something in german or spanish there is nothing to watch at all. We phoned reception to find the fee to unlock all channels was 3 Euros per day. We paid the fee but even still the only channel worth watching was an Arabic film channel which showed English films with subtitles in Arabic.

- Ants. As the apartment is self catering we had food stored in the apartment. Unfortunately wherever we moved the food to the ants (much tinier than english ants but bugs none the less) found it. We had to throw away quite a lot of things.

- The pools are not heated so during our entire stay we didn't get in the pools once as they freezing, the hot tub was also emptied so we couldn't use that.

We absolutely loved Lanzarote and would highly recommend a stay in Matagorda as it's much quieter than the hustle and bustle of Puerto Del Carmen centre. The beach is gorgeous and bars and resteraunts lovely with a 40 minute walk to the centre of PDC which we did several times in the week.

We will definitely be returning to Matagorda however - will be staying somewhere different next time around!
