This year I decided to take my first ever winter break and after reading Trip Advisor decided on the Costa Sal. I wasn't disappointed with my stay. The complex is clean and well maintained and, owing to the time of year, was peaceful. I stayed in a double bed studio which had most of what I needed, apart from a balcony or terrace. The windows overlooked a children's play area and suspect that in school holidays could experience some noise. If I stay there again I will dfefinitely book a 1 bedroom apartment or bungalow as a balcony or terrace is important to me.
As I was staying on half-board, breakfast and evening meal were served in the Zest restaurant and bar. I am not sure if Zeest belongs to the Costa Sal or is run independently of it. The food was good, fresh cooked, but somewhat limited... especially the evening meal half-board menu. The service, however, was attentive. I had some lovely conversations with the staff, who were helpful and friendly.
The shop on the complex is quite well stocked and handy for milk, coffee and such.
The main down point was the maid service. Apparently this should happen five times a week but I found it a little hit and miss. My towels and bedding were only changed once and there didn't seem any pattern to the days when there was service.
Despite this, my overall impression of my stay is good and positive and I would stay there again although as I say in different type of accommodation and next time more likely on b&b.
Room Tip: Single people would be better off in a one bedroom apartment.
