“Comfortable and Affordable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Our family (2 adults and 2 teenage children) spent a wonderful 2 weeks at this very comfortable and affordable resort. For people wanting brand new modern furnishings and surroundings you will be bitterly disappointed. If you looking for somewhere to relax after a busy day seeing the sights of the Gold Coast and surrounds, then come on down.

Ian and Anne are wonderful hosts who accommodate all and sundry who come through their doors. There is a fantastic pool, heated spa, FREE BBQ's, a lake to go fishing and very clean and tidy surroundings.

Bay of Palms is literally next door to the Pines shopping centre that has Coles, Woolworths, Target, Maccas, KFC and Pizza Hut, plus a plethora of specialty shops. The M1 highway is 3 minutes away which takes you north to all the theme parks, which by the way, makes them only 30 minutes away from the room.

The beach is only a 5 minute drive and Surfers Paradise is just 20 minutes up the Pacific Hwy. The place is just so well situated for a family. A tip for an evening meal, Palm Beach Surf Club just can't be beaten for quality and value.

All in all we had a wonderful time and will be back again and again..

Room Tip: Family of four? Go for adjoining rooms that face the lake

“Bay of Palms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

Lovely location on the lake at Elanora, behind The Pines shopping Centre. Lovely swimming pool & spa, which are both always at the right temperature (I dislike pools that are too cold to swim in, & spas that are not hot!). Comfortable rooms with 1 br, but studio apartments next to the room can be used for families to make a "second" bedroom unit.

Room Tip: Nice to have a choice of rooms overlooking the pool or the lake.

“Our Fav Gold Coast Hideaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

Bay of Palms is a great resort where you have the options to pay a little more to get a little more - if staying just a few nights (which is normally all we can get away for) a standard room with basic supplies is all you need - if styaing a bit longer (which we hope to do in the new year) you pay for a deluxe room and get the little extra's you may need. I dont mind paying for Air Con if i need it as i dont want to be charged for it if i dont need it...We have always found our kitchen to be well stocked - not what we have at home but still all the basic's - we do use pot holders and juicers so not having them on holidays is no big deal..basicly you get what you pay for. We will be back in the New Year and allready counting down the days..

Room Tip: always talk to the resort when booking that way you can request what you need.

“Potential ruined by cheapness”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

This place has potential to be a great place. I chose to stay here because of all the good reviews on TripAdvisor. The layout is nice; the rooms are spacious; and it's nice to have an assigned parking spot.

The good feeling's gone when you find that air conditioning costs an extra $5 per day. Worse if you check in late, because they keep the air-con controller remotes in the office, so you'll have to hope the night manager can be found and that he/she will feel like supplying you with a remote (the a-c units don't work without the remote controller).

The cheapness shows in other ways as well, like the linens supplied include bath towels and bed sheets, one dish rag and drying towel. Period. Did you notice the wash cloths (face cloths) and hand towels missing from that list? Zero hand towels and zero face cloths are included.

In the "fully-equipped kitchen" you will find knives but no cutting boards, and no scissors. Also no pot holder pads, precious few kitchen tools (e.g. peeler, juicer), and an envelope of dish soap adequate for dishes from a single meal.

There are more examples of cheapness, but these fall into the more debatable category of whether a "resort" would normally include them or not. Then there are the maintenance issues, like curtains whose draw cords don't, and faucets whose seals are worn.

Overall if there was nothing else available, I'd stay here again, but it would not be my first choice. If you do plan to stay at the Bay of Palms, bring your own - everything - and make sure you arrive before the office closes.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room. The reviewers who were happiest with their stay must have been in refur...
