“Perfect, a little gem!”

We were really pleased with this hotel. We stayed one night at the start of our hol in France and one night at the end to break up our journey from Stafford to Ile de Re! It was exactly what we needed and exceeded our expectations. The room was basic but clean and comfortable, with plenty of space for the travel cot provided. Our nights sleep was quiet, and we had lovely food in the restaurant on site. They were very helpful with our 2 yr old, and the whole place felt relaxed and friendly. I would stay longer if in the area for more nights next time. Highly recommended.

“Adequate for a stop over with excellent food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2011

The rooms are typical of a 'transit' style hotel, quite small but very clean. Comfortable bed, good bathroom with efficient over the bath shower.
The restaurant was very good indeed and we had an excellent evening meal there.
The staff are all friendly and helpful.
The one down side was trying to find it approaching from Cherbourg. It's easy coming the other way with a clear sign on the road but otherwise we drove into what seemed like a housing estate and we had to ask for directions.

“Budget has got expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2011

Is it just me are all the budget hotels now just expensive poor hotels?
For a budget hotel to cost £80 a night then the basics, bed, comfort and appearance should be first rate, serviceable and comfortable, nothing more perhaps but all these factors should be in place.
Unfortunately what you get is a very dated facility with poor quality beds that at £40 a night would offer a safe bed over your head but cannot do other than simply take advantage of demand by charging today’s rates.
Service is friendly in their restaurant and food is OK, preferable to a British equivalent chain, it is generally freshly prepared. Again though its not longer cheap other than maybe the daily special.
Well positioned for the ferry and still better than most French budget chains, just not worth the price without improvements though.
A lot of investment is required or charge less. Personally I think a middle ground is probably appropriate.

“A great change from the really low cost hotels”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2011

Always a pleasant welcome at La Gacerie. Very convenient for the old town of Cherbourg the harbour and car ferries. The restaurant is simple but serves fresh cooked food and has great horsd'oerves and desert buffets. Rooms are clean and fresh though some exterior decoration would spruce up the appearance. Some would say typically French.

Room Tip: For a peacuful sleep pick a room facing away from the main road

“Need to up their game.”

We stopped at this Hotel as an overnight stop on the way back home. It is conveniently positioned for easy access to the port. about 10 minutes away. Hotel is reasonable value for France. But we did have some issues.
We ate in the restaurant and each had the rump steak, both medium. One was done to perfection, the other was inedible. The meat was just one lump of gristle and sinew. Pointed out, but it still stayed on the bill.
Room was clean and the bed great. However there cannot be any sound proofing between the bedrooms at all. You can hear normal conversations from the rooms either side and from above, Toilets flushing at all time during the night and someone snoring throughout the night could be heard as if it was in the some room as us !!. Not the best nights sleep was had. Breakfast was ok. Continental all you can eat.
