“What a beautiful location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2007

Arrival: This was the forth hotel we stayed at (2 nights) as part of a 13 day “Highlights of Scandinavia” Trafalgar Cost Saver trip. As such we didn’t have to deal directly with the staff for check-in. The staff organised our room keys quite promptly and we were checked in within minutes.

Location: This hotel is across the road from the water of the fiord. It’s in the heart of what can only be described as a very small town. There’s really not a lot to do in and around town.

Accommodation: We had two nights at this hotel. Our room was on the second floor and a bit of a warning here if you have mobility issues because there were plenty of stairs you needed to climb to access everything from the lobby, to the your rooms and the restaurant. The room was quite a nice sized, with plenty of space to spread ourselves and suit cases out. The central heating (electric heater the full length of the room width window) worked very nicely. There was a bit of a water view through the park (right hand side of window, left hand side view was of a 3 – 4 story building across the road) which was quite nice. The carpet and most furniture looked very new and bordering on being stylish. The bed was firm. The bathroom was quite small and when having a shower basically the entire floor gets very wet. They do have under floor heating which does eventually dry it out. The interesting point is despite this, there was no mould anywhere. The shower itself was hot and there was plenty of water from a nice spraying shower head.

Food: We did have included diners here and with it being a smorgy with salmon done 4 ways, plenty of other choices and a good selection of deserts, it certainly hit the spot. In fact if I was staying elsewhere in this town (not that I think you can) I would come to this restaurant for what they offered. Breakfast was primarily a continental style with hard and soft boiled eggs. Nothing flash but it did the trick.

Service: The only interaction we had with staff was on the second night when we arrived back to our room after a long day to discover just one bath towel and an extra hand towel. I went down to reception and requested a second bath towel. The guy behind the desk acknowledged my concern and without asking me to follow stated off towards the stairs and out of sight. When I eventually caught him up, I found him staring into the shelving of the linen room, which quite obviously did not hold any bath towels. After a couple of moments of contemplation, his solution was to offer me no less than 8 hand towels.

Overall: For where it is, it was quite a pleasant stay. The diners were really good and the rooms were at least clean and pleasant.

Tip: Good room to do your “Smalls washing”, with the heater for drying things quickly. If you’re considering doing this tour and want to see reviews of other hotels, the next hotel we stayed at was the Thon Bergen Airport Hotel, (of course by myself - GR8FUN).
