“Lovely spot on the edge of Yorkshire moors”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

This b&b provided a large, comfortable room in a converted building adjacent to the Three Tuns Restaurant (excellent casual eating) & pub. The village is quiet but close to Thirsk (Herriot country) and the moors proper. Most enjoyable stay, but pity it was only for one night as we spotted much more to explore in the area. Breakfast was excellent & cooked to order.

“Wonderful Inn and restaurant in the Moors”

We feel tremendously lucky to have had the chance to stay in this wonderful Inn. Ostmotherly is a dreamy town just at the base of the haunting North Moors. We stumbled in weary and without a place to stay and found a dreamy Inn at the Three Tuns. Beautiful rooms and a restaurant that serves fabulous meals. We loved our stay and the family that runs this Inn are very friendly hosts. This is a wonderful base for hiking in the Moors and was a highlight of our trip!

“excellent accommodation in a superb location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 February 2011

This 'hotel' is more of a pub/restaurant with rooms. The rooms are in an adjacent building and this means any noise from the pub is minimised. The rooms themselves are very tastefully done, a blend of period and contemporary decor. The restaurant serves very good food, well above average for a pub. There is excellent walking of all grades from the door of the hotel and it is on Wainright's Coast to Coast route. The staff are friendly the only niggle being when we were there the place was closed in the afternoon meaning that check in then can be problematic. But don't let this put you off. We would return ... and have done once already.

“Did not even get to stay we were so disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2011

Arrived to an empty pub, no lights on, no one to check in with. Rang the accommodation phone went to answer machine. Visited a nearby pub to see if they could enlighten us as to when to expect someone. Apparently this often happens and on occasions some people have had to wait up to 3 hours. We waited 45 minutes and meanwhile checked out our room which was open. There was a terrible smell of rotton eggs/blocked drains. When the manageress arrived eventually she agreed that someone should have been there for us, but said the smell in the room was from a nearby coal fire which was not the case. As we were not feeling that we could enjoy what was planned to be a romantic night away we decided to cancel the night and head off elsewhere. Ended up having a much better time at a much less price. Rooms are expensive for what they are and sadly I feel this place is living on the good reputation it had when former owners had it.

“Far too full of itself!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2010

We stayed at the Three Tuns during our Coast to Coat walk and were expecting a bit of a treat. It was more expensive than any of the other B&Bs and Inns we'd used. It turned out to be the most disappointing stay of our coast to coast and not worth the higher price and the extra walking.
We arrived after having walked from Richmond on a real warm and humid day. The woman who appeared to be the manageress asked us how far we'd walked and didn't wait for an answer but immediately showed us up to our room on the second floor of the house next door. It didn't have the bath we'd been told we would have when we booked but was very pleasant. It was really difficult dragging our cases up the steep narrow staircase.
The restaurant was also disappointing. We weren't offered any bread but the starters were very good. We both chose the pork which was so overcooked it was dry and hard. When we mentioned it we were told they would knock some thing off the bill but this didn't happen. Breakfast was very ordinary - cheap sliced white bread for toast, no wholemeal or any other brown offered.
While the whole visit was disappointing it was the attitude of the unpleasant "manageress" that really spoilt it.
