“Terrible room, dirty beach, fantastic view”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2011

The place of the resort is nice. The bungalows are from wooden - oke.
But on the terrace are 2 chairs, with dirty cushions. The room is cca. 12 qm, very small (1 bed, 1 shelfsystem, no wardrobe, only 3 trashy hangers, no chair, no table, nothing else) and dark. The lamps are cca. 20-25 watt, you can see weak, can not read and it makes the room unfriendly. The bathroom also uncomfortable. The whole bungalow reflects the poverty and the economical. You have not mood to go home, what to do in the dark? (Take care: though the cheapest bungalow lies in very natural and nice environment, but close to the restaurant, from where you can hear till 22.00 the very noisy loud of the cooks - what you can hear in the restaurant also.) You think: it is 20 years old, but only 7.
In the restaurant you can eat whole day. But: the assortment of the breakfast is very poor and expensive, the quality of the other food is boring. We could eat better outside (20 minute left a good fish restaurant, 30 minute right more good restaurants).
The beach is not front of the resort dirty, but empty, so you have possible to found a good place to lie on the towel (you get from the resort). Average daily 2 you can swim. And you can take a kayak (500 Bht/day) - not too much place to go. You can take a longtailboat for longer distance, but very expensive (3500 Bht/person).
What is really wonderful: the view. It is the only thing what worth the price.
We arrived the resort from Phuket, where we stayed in the hotel Renaissance. The hotel was 7 stars, the resort 1 star. For the same price.

We have decided to reply to these very undeserving comments made by keszeg from Budapest. If this is the guest that we think it is, we have had nothing but problems and complaints from this person. We have always considered Lom'Lae a gem of a resort not only because of our bungalows, restaurant and wonderful staff, but because of the fantastic location that we have. We make it very clear in all of our emails what is and is not available here. Sometimes, though, we get people looking for everything for free. We are a small resort and make every effort possible to make our guests as comfortable as we can. We always say it takes one black spot on a a white sheet of paper to make everything seem inappropriate. We have guests who have been returning here for years. Koh Yao Noi is a very special place in Thailand. If keszeg was not happy, they could have easily left instead of staying in a discounted bungalow during our peak season for 5 nights!

“A tranquil hide away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2010

We had travelled the south of Thailand and wanted a quiet place to relax a few days before heading to Bangkok. Well we got what we wanted at Lom Lae Beach Resort.

The highs:

+ Lot's of space and privacy
+ Beautiful rural setting
+ Good service and nice staff
+ Nice beach to linger on
+ Renting a bike is cheap and you can see the island in a day
+ Daytrips to the Phangnga bay are really a nice experience. Especially the cave exploration where you go inside the rocks.

The lows:
- No good conditions for swimming.
- It is hard to look at the bay from your bungalow as there are a lot of bushes. Don't expect uninterupted bay views.
- If it is raining: there is vitually nothing else to do. Take a lot of books.

Do not go here if you expect a polished hotel with large swimming pool and waiters to serve cocktails. Lom Lae will immerse you in nature with enough comfort to relax and enjoy your stay.

“Nice, friendly, peaceful, rural!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 April 2010

Lom Lae is a nice, quiet place, ideal for older couples. Beach is nice and there is a fab view of the small islands in Phang Nga Bay.
We planned to stay for 5 nights but just stayed for 2, not because we hated the place, its just it was too quiet for us and missed the diving. They do boast that there is diving on the resort but I wouldnt recommend. The water for one is very murky, and even the guy said there is only 2-3M visibility. My partner wanted to finish his AOW but was slightly overpriced and dive shop looked very run down.
We arrived from Koh Yao Yai (its sister island) and got a taxi for 160THB, standard fare. Lom Lae wasnt too far, 10mins from Pier. A small dirt track leading to Lom Lae should not put you off as Lom Lae comes as a surprise.
We found the staff friendly and helpful. The bungalows are spacious however we payed 2500 per night (breakfast not incl), but there was no a/c (if we had stayed for 4+ nights they would charge 2000 per night per room). Although with the rain showers in the pm, it brought the temp down so it wasnt too hot during the night, there was a fan. There is hot water.
We did, however, have a night 'guest' shall we say. My partner (being a man) jumped on me during the night having seen a rat rummaging through our bags which was the size of a cat.. Well I guess thats nature!
Lom Lae is right next to the beach, however the sea wasnt great to swim in. The water was murky but this is the case for all the islands around Phang Nga.
The restaurant is nice, and we found the food good. There is wireless for free and if you dont have laptop, there is a pc where they charge 100THB per hour.
They also have scooters for rent, 350THB per day. We rented one and nipped around the island for the day. The island is quite small but they do boast a 7/11 and a post office.
All in all we found Lom Lae a nice place, but slightly overpriced. We would recommend it for people who really wants to relax and be away from it all as we found it a little too quiet. (We hopped on the Ferry to Phi Phi island, just 2hrs, ticket 400THB each for foreigners 200THB for locals, heaven for divers!)

“Perfect location to relax”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2010

We loved our stay at Lom Lae. Indeed, we would go back any time !

The grounds are perfectly maintained, the bungalows are all quite far away one from another so you will hardly notice your neighbours.
The athmosphere at Lom Lae was extremely peaceful (no music at the restaurant, the beach bar is quite and peaceful, the lighting is kept minimum, the owner was extremely sereine).

The hotel beach has a magnificient view over the Krabi province limestones.
There are many hamocks on the beach so that you can enjoy this view.

The bungalow we had was really clean and extremely well thought.
The hotel does not have a swimming pool but we did not miss it at all.

We chartered a long boat via the hotel to visit the phang nga bay and I think this was the best way to visit the bay avoiding the crowds.
Also, we rentered a motor bike to explore the island. I would recommand anyone to do the same.

This hotel is perfect for those who need a break from all stress and relax.

“If u r looking for a nice relaxing beach holiday, then look elsewhere”

I am totally appalled by the comments that I am reading about this resort and want to share my view .. in few words, our stay here was a nightmare. I concur with the reviewer that said the beach was not swimmable at any time of the day. Was really disappointed when we got there since the first I had in mind after hours of traveling was to have a swim .. instead I ended up ‘meditating’ in the bungalow. For the reviewers that say that a net over the bed is romantic … have you ever been to other places before or is this the first traveling experience? The net is a mosquito net (pls note ours had holes in it so it didn’t keep insects out!) The food is nothing that you call ‘thai food’ … try the noodles in gravy (had to look the other way cause it looked more like slime to me). The only good thing about the place was the setting, the rest does not even make it on my list. Was really glad to get out of there! Would have gone before if they didn’t ask for the money upfront IN CASH when we got there … maybe that’s the reason they ask for payment beforehand, so the visitors are trapped there with no escape!
